Subject: To spread this Good News of what Jesus actually accomplished
In reply to: WOG 's message, "Then what is the purpose of the church?" on 08:20:52 02/25/02 Mon

Unfortunately all the church of today does is tell the message of death.

And apparently this has been felt for some time. Here is a poem from the Romantic Poet William Blake:

The Garden of Love:

I went to the Garden of Love,
And saw what I never had seen:
A Chapel was built in the midst,
Where I used to play on the green.

And the gates of this Chapel were shut,
And, "Thou shalt not" writ over the door;
So I turn'd to the Garden of Love,
That so many sweet flowers bore,

And I saw it was filled with graves,
And tomb-stones where flowers should be;
And Priests in black gowns were walking their rounds,
And binding WITH BRIARS, my joys and desires.

Obviously from this poem, you can see how people have felt for over 200 years about the purpose of the church. It has had only one method- "BINDING". The church never frees its souls it always imprisons them. It is no different today.

It's time for a true message. One where Jesus actually attains His title and purpose. The message of "choose with your free will or your going to hell" is so riddled with contradictions it's no wonder so few take it seriously. I think someone below made a very good point about unconditional love. There is no such thing with the God of the popular Christian Church.

Sincerely :)
