The nature of sin against an Infinitely Just God, is that one sin is infinitely offensive, which is why the one sin of Adam, infected the entire creation.

In order for an infinite offense to be paid for by sinful man, it will take all eternity.

That is exactly why it took God to pay the penalty for infinite sin, because only God's Infinite Mercy could balance the scales of Infinite offense, and satisfy God's Infinite Justice at the same time.

That was performed by Jesus Christ on the Cross, who being God in the likeness of Humanity, gave His human life, free of offense(sin) to pay the Just penalty for sin, death.

God both satisfied His Justice and extended Mercy to all whosoever shall trust in the Atoning Sacrifice of Jesus Christ for payment for their sin.
