After hanging up, Nikita freshened up. She loosened her hair from the chignon she’d had it in all day, brushed it out, reapplied her lipstick and grabbed her coat. Ten minutes later, she strode through the ground floor of Section's elegant lobby area.

Through the large glass doors she could see her father's limousine waiting. Josh, her father’s chauffeur, exited the car and opened the door as she approached. “Evening Ms. Wolfe,” he greeted her.

"Hi Josh." Nikita smiled and accepted his hand as he helped her into the car. Her gaze settled on her father as he pat the seat next to him. Her mother sat on the opposite side. Nikita climbed in and leaned over to buss his cheek, and then she reached up to wipe at the traces of lipstick. "I’m here," she said by way of greeting. “Satisfied?”

Paul Wolfe’s eyes swept over her and smiled approvingly. "Very.”

Despite still being a little upset with her father for having pulled her away from her work, Nikita smiled and slipped her arm through his. Madeline also smiled.

“I told him you were busy,” she said, “but you know your father, always insisting on getting his way.”

“Is it so terrible to want to spend an evening with my two favorite women in the world?” Paul asked.

“Well,” Nikita said, “since you put it that way…” She gave him another smile and leaned her head against his shoulder.

The evening turned out to be an enjoyable one for Nikita.
Over dinner Paul asked Nikita about her trip to Chicago. She gave him a quick run down and a few suggestions she had concerning upcoming administrative changes. Madeline approved of her suggestions and Paul promised to look further into it the next day.

“Did you meet with Michael Samuelle today?” Paul asked.

“I did. Very nice gentleman,” Nikita said. She placed her fork down and tilted her head to one side. “I'm surprised though at your decision to focus on a small company like his to promote our European contacts. Is there any particular reason why that is?”

Paul arched his brows. "You don't like him?"

"No, it's not that. I do like him, but his company is smaller than some of the other offers we've received."

"I know, but you know how I like to back the smaller companies," Paul said. "They give variety to the market place. I've studied Samuelle's profile too and I like his success rate."

Madeline raised her brows at him from across the table. "Aren't you forgetting another reason?" she asked.

"Now, darling," Paul began, "you know I would have backed Samuelle up even if Walter hadn't asked me to."

"Ah!" Nikita gave a low laugh. "Now I see." Walter was an old buddy of her father's from back in the sixties when they had served in the Vietnam war. He made his life now traveling around the world as a photographer.

"And don't you go mentioning this to Samuelle," Paul scowled. "Walter says that he's the very independent type and wouldn't look kindly upon his meddling."

"And how exactly does Uncle Walter know Samuelle? He's worked for him before?"

"I'm sure he has," Paul replied, "but it goes deeper. Remember Walter's second wife, Lo Ming? Samuelle was engaged to Lo Ming's niece, or something like that. Walter met him through her several years ago."

Recalling her earlier conversation with Michael and she asked, "I take it they're not engaged any longer?"

"No." Paul shook his head. "The girl died. An illness I think. Samuelle poured himself into his work and --you know your Uncle Walter-- apparently, he's really taken a liking to this Samuelle and has kept track of his progress through the years. When he found out Samuelle was expanding to the U.S., Walter gave me a call."

Nikita mulled over this information quietly. Soon, the conversation at the table moved on to other topics and Nikita pushed further thoughts of the Frenchman off to the side.
