Chapter 7.

Gail Brinton, the receptionist at Section One, smiled apologetically up at the handsome man standing before her as she hung up the phone. “I’m sorry, Mr. Samuelle, Miss Wolfe isn’t in right now. Did you have an appointment scheduled with her?”

“No, I didn’t.” Michael glanced regretfully at his watch. He meant to call to set one but had gotten busy with other meetings and it had slipped his mind.

“Is there someone else who can help you?” Gail asked.

“I'm not certain." Michael briefly explained his situation. After listening, Gail made another phone call. Within a few minutes, Michael was on his way up to the executive offices.

Rose met him as he stepped off of the elevators and escorted him to what Michael recognized from his visit two days earlier as Madeline Wolfe's office.

“Michael!” Madeline greeted him warmly. “What a pleasant surprise.”

"I'm sorry for this inconvenience," Michael apologized. "I was at a meeting nearby and thought I'd take this opportunity to stop by and speak with Nikita about drawing up a contract."

"You've decided then?"

"Yes," Michael confirmed. "I'm very satisfied with what I saw the day Nikita took me on a tour and have decided I'd like Section to represent the Samuelle Galleries."

Madeline smiled her approval at him. "That's excellent news," she said. "Nikita won't be back until later this afternoon but I'll have Chris Davenport - he's one of our executive accountants that works with Nikita - I'll have him begin on the papers. Either he or Nikita will be in touch with you to set a meeting where you can go over the finer details before the final contract is drawn up for your signature. Will that be all right?"

"Yes, that sounds fine," Michael answered. "I'm leaving town tonight to meet with one of my suppliers, but I'll be back in town by Friday morning."

"I'm sure we can have a draft for you to look over by then," Madeline said, as she picked up a pen and quickly flipped through the pages of her desk calendar.

"Oh."

Michael raised his brows. "Is there a problem?"

Madeline tapped a manicured finger against her chin, a small frown forming on her lips. Friday was Seymour's birthday. Nikita would not be available that afternoon since she was in charge of the bash being put together for her younger brother. "Just a slight scheduling one," Madeline replied, and then smiled. "My son's birthday is this Friday and we're having a party for him. Nikita's in charge and ---"

"I see." Michael nodded. "It's all right. I can schedule to see her or Mr. Davenport on Monday."

"Well," Madeline paused, "Monday is when the teams have their meetings. It would be nice if we could have your account ready for even a preliminary presentation on that day. That way the art department can already begin to generate ideas for a promotion strategy. What time will you be arriving back on Friday?"

"I'm booked for the 9am flight that morning. I can switch to an earlier flight if that will help, but if it's going to be an inconvenience, I can wait till next week."

"No," Madeline shook her head slowly. "I'll have Chris meet with you and work out the details. That will enable us to still present your account to Nikita's team at Monday's briefing. Will that be okay?"

"Certainly," Michael answered. He thanked Madeline and stood to leave.

"There's just one more matter," Madeline smiled as she walked him to the door. "What are you doing Friday night?"
