In such times, a person would find oneself asking questions like ‘who am I?’, ‘why am I here?’, and ‘what is my purpose?’. These questions and more circled the mind of the Arabian princess.

Layla was vaguely aware that her two friends were nearby, yet kept walking onward as if she was the only one in the world. Every once in a while she would stop and admire and tree or a flower, but it would fade in beauty immediately and she would continue on. The world was gray.

Her lips parted and she drunk in the fresh air often. If only freedom could be as sweet as the day. It wasn’t, though, and Omar was coming. Every bone trembled with apprehensive of this.

Suddenly her first savior, Telle, interrupted her thoughts. She turned sharply toward him and stared, slowly shaking her head. Yes, she was terrified but did it matter anymore? Did anything matter? Her eyes diverted between Telle and Jelena and she shrugged, finally vocalizing an answer, “I am already dead inside.” She murmured and strolled onward. Life and freedom were fairy tales. Love was a forgotten dream. Neither of them did she ever have, never will she have.
