This pageant was originally set up to accept contestants based on population centers rather than state boundaries. They have a strict acceptance procedure and only accept approx. 50% of the applicants who apply. The original concept was to have at least 2 contestants from each state, hence the number of contestants competing is more than the normal 51 that other pageants have. It's all about providing opportunities to as many young women as possible each year. The trak record is impeccable! Contestants are treaated very well and judging is completely fair. Former winners include Halle Berry!
