I remember Nichols very well, in fact he was the one cut my hair. I think he did it for a laugh, he only cut the sides and left the thick top on making me look a right idiot. On occasion I would ask Nichols if I could go to the toilet, if I was having a number 2 he would look over the toilet stable door and then kick it fully open and shout out you bastard. Nichols had a jag you could often see him waxing it at his house nearby. A couple of years after leaving Whatton I was in Strangeways awaiting allocation to borstal. Whilst there another lad told me that someone had walked up to Nichols while he was polishing his car and slashed him, I never found out for sure if this was true?

Nichols was a very strange person, looking back I recon he might have got sectioned under the mental health act at some point in his later life. I bet he gave his wife and kids some serious grief. I presume he had a family because he lived in a house we could see out of one of the windows. I sometimes wonder if some of the screws there were actually ex SAS as they were the worst of the worst (they were brutal)

I remember while on education one of the teachers had a fag nicked, the screws brought the outside police in to investigate. Everyone in that class was questioned with the threat of being charged, what a joke. I do not know if anyone actually stole a fag or the teacher made a mistake?
