I was in the approved school system as it was coming to an end,but it was merely renamed,
Yes you were allowed home at holidays provided you had served a certain amount of time,and that your family were prepared to have you home,
Myself,after a while of constantly running chose to stay for the holidays and not go home,I also turned down the weekend leave I was entitled to,
This meant there were just 4 or 5 of us in the school and I spent one Christmas like that,it was better than going home.
