  • Update on Frankie and Gaylen -- TOPMA Reporter!!!, 16:20:25 10/11/09 Sun
I spoke with both drivers today and they are both okay but a little sore. Frankie has already got the motor out of the car and headed to Richard Patterson's to borrow the old '53 Head Hunter Vette. They will be ready this weekend. Team TBH started taking the Hellair apart at 5:30 this morning and body parts are already in the shop getting repaired. The HELLFISH Cuda will be ready for this weekends races and the '57 HELLAIR will hopefully be ready for testing by this Sunday getting ready for the LenMar Motorsports/ADRL World Finals.

Glad to hear both drivers are okay!

Reseting the points would give the teams that are running ADRL or the lower funded a better chance to win a championship, but not as good for the team's that only run TOPMA and support the orginazation all year long. Unless bonus points were awarded to teams for coming to all the TOPMA races once the point were reset. So reset the points like NHRA does with the top 8 or 10 in the count down and Lets say the teams that go to all the TOPMA races get 2 or 3 points per race toward the championship so depending on the amount of races would get 40 to 60 bonus points for making all the races if there are 20 races, or give the teams that go to all the races 50 bonus points. Maybe keep the rule of dropping one race so everyone can miss one without loosing the bonus points.
Of course this is for next year before anyone goes crazy.
    Just an idea....

  • TXR Results - 9/25/09 -- Mrs. TBH, 09:38:18 09/28/09 Mon
Mother nature was in a much better mood this weekend and most of the 19 cars that showed up last weekend were here again to try their luck at Texas Raceway. After 2 rounds of qualifying here's what went down:

    #1 Dwayne Watkins - 3.928 at 189 mph
#2 Steve Wiley - 4.006 at 173 mph **Personal Best**
    #3 Ken Thomas - 4.071 at 177 mph
    #4 Perry Dunn Racing - 4.145 at 173 mph
    #5 Frankie Taylor - 4.169 at 160 mph
    #6 Jackie Deaver - 4.251 at 169 mph
    #7 Michelle Wilson - 4.259 at 164 mph
    #8 David Baldwin - 4.419 at 161 mph
    #9 HT Wilson - 4.499 at 160 mph
    #10 Barry Wade - 4.527 at 157 mph
    #11 Doug Riesterer - 4.535 at 176 mph
    #12 Chuck Poindexter - 4.659 at 151 mph
    #13 Heath Harvey - 4.870 at 108 mph
    #14 John Sheffield - 4.919 at 157 mph
    #15 Gaylen Smith - 7.658 at 62 mph

    First round:

Frankie Taylor (W) 3.860 at 184 mph (.122 RT) **New track record**
Jeremy Brown (Perry Dunn Racing) (RU) 5.496 at 76 mph (.074 RT)

Jeremy left on Frankie but it was over shortly after take-off as Frankie was on a record setting run.

    Jackie Deaver (W) 4.966 at 132 mph (.065 RT)
Chuck Poindexter (RU) 4.874 at 118 mph (-.004 RT) Red light

Chuck was in as an alternate for Ken Thomas who broke a rod during qualifying. Jackie said he didn't see the red light and thought he was way late but saw his win light on about half track and got out of it.

    Steve Wiley (W) 4.013 at 168 mph (.064 RT)
Doug Riesterer (RU) 5.701 at 90 mph (.060 RT)

Doug was in as an alternate for Michelle Wilson. Both cars left almost dead even but Riesterer encountered traction problems and aborted the run meanwhile Steve was on a very nice run in Jimmy Hector's Corvette capturing the win light.

    Dwayne Watkins (W) 3.912 at 191 mph (.113 RT)
David Baldwin (RU) 4.751 at 115 mph (.041 RT)

David had the holeshot advantage but that didn't matter as Dwayne was on another great looking run and takes the win.

    Semi Finals:

    Steve Wiley (W) 4.027 at 182 mph (.033 RT)
Jackie Deaver (RU) 4.451 at 160 mph (.017 RT)

Jackie was going for the upset win with the holeshot advantage but Steve wasn't having any part of that. He came thru the finish line traps teeter tottering on the zoomies and claims the victory.

    Frankie Taylor (W) 3.893 at 192 mph (.106 RT)
Dwayne Watkins (RU) 3.968 at 185 mph (.046 RT)

This race could of very easily gone in Dwayne's favor with his better reaction time but Frankie denys Watkins of the win nipping him in the lights.

    Finals:

    Frankie Taylor (W) 3.995 at 191 mph (.093 RT)
Steve Wiley (RU) 4.078 at 179 mph (.102 RT)

Time was running out on the Kennedale curfew and both of the cars packed the chutes from the round before, zero'd the clutch and was back in the lanes (probably with the oil boiling over) before the deadline. Steve gave Frankie the move and Frankie took advantage of it and captures the win. Both cars having a little traction problems which made for an interesting final round for those that stuck around to see.

Congratulations to Frankie Taylor and the entire Taylor/Hanning crew for your win and also to Steve Wiley and the Wiley/Hector Red Reaper crew for your runner-up finish. I know Great Granny was proud!

Well unfortunately mother nature wasn't a drag racing fan for Friday night at Kennedale, but she did let us race on Saturday and 19 Pro Mod teams came from all around to compete. After 2 rounds of qualifying, here's how everything unfolded:

    #1 Ken Thomas - 3.976 at 183 mph
    #2 Wes Johnston - 4.040 at 182 mph
    #3 Frankie Taylor - 4.106 at 181 mph
    #4 Thomas Myers - 4.151 at 180 mph
    #5 Perry Dunn Racing - 4.186 at 176 mph
    #6 Gaylen Smith - 4.191 at 160 mph
    #7 Doug Riesterer - 4.223 at 176 mph
    #8 Steve Wiley - 4.289 at 178 mph
    #9 Jackie Deaver - 4.294 at 167 mph
#10 Shawn Jones - 4.352 at 166 mph (First time racing with us! Welcome New Mexico!!!)
    #11 Barry Wade - 4.691 at 154 mph
    #12 John Sheffield - 4.766 at 156 mph
#13 Ronnie Niswanger - 4.803 at 131 mph (Welcome Back Ronnie)
    #14 Michelle Wilson - 5.336 at 108 mph
    #15 Car #40L ??? - 5.798 at 77 mph
    #16 Nick Williams - 6.730 at 91 mph
    #17 HT Wilson - 7.376 at 90 mph
    #18 Gene Hector - 7.980 at 60 mph
    #19 Steve Wheeler - 9.361 at 45 mph

    First Round:

    Ken Thomas (W) 4.007 at 181 mph (.024 RT)
Steve Wiley (RU) 4.169 at 182 mph (.018 RT)

Both cars were on a nice run. Wiley made a test lap earlier in the day and ran a personal best of 4.02 but could not repeat it when it counted.

    Thomas Myers (W) 4.042 at 183 mph (.141 RT)
Jeremy Brown (Perry Dunn Racing) (RU) 4.137 at 175 mph (-.030 Red light)

Again, both cars on a nice run but Jeremy Brown left a little too soon.

    Frankie Taylor (W) 3.809 at 195 mph (.285 RT)
    Gaylen Smith (RU) No Time

After Gaylen did his burn out he left a trail of fuel that was evaporating almost as quickly as it hit the track but the fitting had broke off going to the fuel pump and it was pumping out into a large puddle under the car so Brandon wisely shut him off. Meanwhile, Frankie reset the ET record with that 3.80 run. Gaylen still has the speed record with 201 mph from earlier in the year.

    Wes Johnston (W) 3.914 at 187 mph (.020 RT)
Doug Riesterer (RU) 6.208 at 80 mph (.113 RT)

After talking with Doug later in the night, he said the track was hooking so good that he had a hard time getting any wheel speed. Wes meant business as he chopped the tree down and then had a great run on top of that.

    Semi Finals:

    Ken Thomas (W) 4.025 at 178 mph (.090 RT)
    Thomas Myers (RU) No time

Thomas Myers rolled thru the beam and therefore got no time. Ken Thomas on another consistent run captures the automatic win.

    Wes Johnston (W) 4.841 at 112 mph (.067 RT)
Frankie Taylor (RU) 5.277 at 92 mph (.071 RT)

I didn't see this run but it doesn't look pretty on paper and I bet it looked ugly in person too. I overheard Paul talking later in the evening and said he was trying something different (it didn't work Paul, throw that idea out! LOL!)

    Final round:

    Ken Thomas (W) 3.984 at 179 mph (.058 RT)
Wes Johnston (RU) 4.018 at 170 mph (.032 RT)

Wes had the light but Ken was able to overcome the holeshot and grab the win. Congratulations to Ken Thomas and the LenMar/Thomas Motorsports team for your win and to Wes Johnston and Hanning Racing for you runner-up finish as well.

  • Double Header - TXR/Crandall -- TOPMA, 09:56:37 09/15/09 Tue
Don't forget racers & race fans, we have a double header this weekend. Kennedale Friday night and Crandall Saturday night! Make plans to be there. The rain should be leaving the area by Thursday and the forecast calls for temps in the 70s during the day and 60s at night! I'm sure all the crew chiefs will be glad to hear that!

Hamstra's win and number 1 qualifier puts him up to #7 in points, dropping Stanton to #8, and Frankie to #9. :-( MadMan misses out on the Battle of the Belts in Ennis. Great job Frankie and crew on getting in the field after your mishaps on Friday. Hope to see y'all at Kennedale on the 18th.
