  • Congrats to Brandon, Charley and the entire crew. Gaylen Smith for driving the hell out of Hellair. To take a new car out to ADRL with such a competitive field and to do extremely well, this was very impressive. Congratulations to all of the Texas teams for a great outing. -- Jeremy & Natalie, 00:57:32 09/14/09 Mon

  • I have a question? -- TOPMA HELPER, 18:51:53 09/07/09 Mon
    Here is my question;

I know at the first of the year we all were talking about awarding the driver(s) for making every TOPMA Race similar to the ADRL rules. Was it decided, on the 50 bonus points or I also know it was talked about allowing the driver(s) who make every race only have to drop one race while everyone else drops the normal 2.

I know the points race is very close:
If we knock out the one race for Gaylen and one for Ken points would stand as of now:

    Gaylen: 708
    Ken: 687

With 5 races left, now granted this is if my math is correct.

I am figuring Gaylen to drop the one race that was cancelled after one round of Qualifying at TXR and Ken doing the same.

    So Gaylen -10
Ken -0(HMP), and -10 TXR cancelled

Now this is assuming we all got 10 points for showing up. I did not add qualifying points due to we got them at the following race.

Let me know if I am correct

  • North Star Dragway Results - 9/5/09 -- Mrs. TBH, 12:48:12 09/08/09 Tue
The weather forecasters were calling for 40% chance of rain on Saturday, Sept 5th but that didn’t stop 12 Pro Mod teams from heading north for the first time this season to North Star Dragway in Denton, TX. After 2 rounds of qualifying, here’s what went down:

    #1 Doug Riesterer – 3.988 at 184 mph
    #2 Gaylen Smith – 4.000 at 191 mph
    #3 Ken Thomas – 4.104 at 183 mph
    #4 David Baldwin – 4.337 at 164 mph
    #5 Jackie Deaver – 4.419 at 165 mph
    #6 Steve Wiley – 4.440 at 160 mph
    #7 Kevin Hargett – 4.578 at 164 mph
    #8 Chuck Poindexter – 4.698 at 151 mph
    #9 Jim Brinkerhoff – 4.714 at 150 mph
    #10 John Sheffield – 4.815 at 159 mph
    #11 Michelle Wilson – 5.341 at 132 mph
    #12 H.T. Wilson – 5.978 at 94 mph

    First round: 10:00 PM

    David Baldwin (W) 4.333 at 164 mph (.056 RT)
Jackie Deaver (RU) 4.514 at 155 mph (.049 RT)

Slight holeshot adavantage going to the Underdawg’s Revenge but right at the finish line a flash fire lit up on Jackie’s car and David drives around him for the win.

    Gaylen Smith (W) 4.464 at 135 mph (.108 RT)
Kevin Hargett (RU) 6.137 at 81 mph (.087 RT)

Kevin was going for the win with the holeshot but it was all over shortly after the hit as the turbocharged mustang encountered traction problems and had to abort the run. Gaylen also had tire shake mid track but had enough momentum going for the win.

    Ken Thomas (W) 4.007 at 180 mph (.089 RT)
Steve Wiley (RU) 4.494 at 121 mph (.034 RT)

Steve Wiley at the wheel of Jimmy Hector’s ’63 Vette chops the tree down but gets out of the grove and has to lift. Ken makes his best run of the night and takes the win.

    Doug Riesterer (W) 4.448 at 177 mph (.160 RT)
Chuck Poindexter (RU) 4.686 at 150 mph (.119 RT)

Doug had tractions problems but saw Chuck’s Beretta on a nice run in the other lane so he stayed with it (all over the track) and gets the win.

    Semi Finals: 11:05 PM

    Ken Thomas (W) 4.019 at 184 mph (.043 RT)
Gaylen Smith (RU) 4.018 at 190 mph (.071 RT)

This was a great drag race (and the closest one of the night).

    David Baldwin (W) 4.348 at 164 mph (.011 RT)
Doug Riesterer (RU) 6.109 at 91 mph (.113 RT)

David was going for the holeshot win but Doug could not keep the ’68 Camaro stuck to the track and had to abort the run. David made another consistent run and finds himself in the finals facing a tough competitor…..

Finals: 12:05 AM (For all you HATERS out there)

    Ken Thomas (W) 4.038 at 179 mph (.073 RT)
David Baldwin (RU) 5.184 at 99 mph (.029 RT)

Once again, David left on his competition but lost traction and had to lift while Ken was making another nice run collecting the win.

Congratulations to Ken Thomas and the entire TMS/LenMar Motorsports crew for your victory and also to David Baldwin and the Butler Motorsports crew for your runner-up finish.

Just wondering why Godwin from Team Nitemare doesnt run much locally here in Dallas in the "Big Things Poppin" 08Chevy Cobalt he & brother in law purchased from Marvin Reese.I know they were in South Carolina to run the Hitler car for $15,000.00 2 weeks ago when Hitler backed out due to engine complications and Godwin refused the $5000.00 payout & based on my source Godwin told him to get the car running and he was willing to run the same race whenever and regardless to whether it be in Orangeburg,Piedmont or Rockingham. Was curious to know if its possible for he(Godwin) and someone like a Jackie Deaver to meet at some point?Rumor on the east coast is they have a 682 cubic inch with 3 stages.Godwin is a cool dude but,his brother in law is an a$$ and i personally would like to see his brother in law shut up.I know the race with Edmund Hall has yet to surface and hope it happens soon.

After sprinkling most of the morning, the clouds parted ways and the hot, humid sun came out just in time for qualifying. 10 Pro Mod teams showed up to do battle TOPMA style and here's how everything unfolded:

    #1 Gaylen Smith - 4.022 at 188 mph
    #2 Ken Thomas - 4.070 at 177 mph
    #3 Michelle Wilson - 4.220 at 169 mph
    #4 Steve Wiley - 4.249 at 179 mph
    #5 David Baldwin - 4.333 at 163 mph
    #6 Jackie Deaver - 4.336 at 165 mph
    #7 Chuck Poindexter - 4.713 at 149 mph
    #8 Gene Hector - 4.755 at 106 mph
    #9 Doug Riesterer - 4.780 at 117 mph
#10 Perry Dunn Racing - NT (Left before tree activated and kicked rods out on that run)

    First Round:

David Baldwin (W) 4.360 at 161 mph (.030 RT) **UPSET WIN**
Steve Wiley (RU) 7.398 at 59 mph (.050 RT)

Steve Wiley at the wheel of Jimmy Hector's '63 Corvette was the better qualified car but after a slight hole advantage and a very consistent car, David Baldwin gets the win.

    Michelle Wilson (W) 4.215 at 169 mph (.039 RT)
Jackie Deaver (RU) 4.291 at 166 mph (.007 RT)

WOW, what a race......Jackie had the advantage off the line but Michelle had the horsepower planted on the track and she gets around Jackie for the win.

    Ken Thomas (W) 4.094 at 178 mph (.053 RT)
Chuck Poindexter (RU) 4.729 at 148 mph (-.004 RT)

Chuck knew he needed to pull out all the stops and he pushed the tree a little too much giving the automatic win to Ken Thomas who was on a nice clean pass.

    Gaylen Smith (W) 4.109 at 163 mph (.132 RT)
Gene Hector (RU) 12.843 at 35 mph (.114 RT)

After meeting up with the retaining wall in the back-up car a few weeks ago, Gene and the Small Block Mafia crew went to work transferring everything over into the new black camo vette and this car is still giving them trouble. Gene lost traction at the hit of the throttle and just coasted thru.

    Semi-Finals:

    Gaylen Smith (W) 3.996 at 190 mph (.098 RT)
David Baldwin (RU) 6.269 at 74 mph (.063 RT)

David got the holeshot advantage off the line, but it was all over with shortly past the 60 foot mark as the hard charging hemi in the Hell Fish made the first 3 second pass of the night.

    Ken Thomas (W) 4.020 at 180 mph (.190 RT)
Michelle Wilson (RU) 4.888 at 112 mph (.033 RT)

Michelle had a huge holeshot advantage but had to abort the run and Ken makes his best pass of the night and takes the win which sets up an all LenMar Motorsports final round.

    Finals:

    Gaylen Smith (W) 3.948 at 191 mph (.082 RT)
Ken Thomas (RU) 4.298 at 133 mph (.075 RT)

Both cars left virtually even (slight advantage to Bad Hoss) but Gaylen's Hell Fish got to the stripe first. Ken Thomas was having trouble taming the "Bad Hoss" in the House of Hot Rods/LenMar Motorsports lane.

Congratulations to Gaylen and team TBH on your victory and also to Ken Thomas and the LenMar/Thomas Motorsports team for your runner-up finish as well.

All the crews serviced the cars and tucked them into the trailers for a little shut eye so we could do it all over again the next night.
