  • TXR Friday the 13th Results - June 13, 2014 -- Mrs. TBH, 14:10:45 06/18/14 Wed
Kennedale, TX, Friday the 13th and a full moon, ten pro mod teams showed up to do battle TOPMA style. On this superstitious night, I’d say all in all things went pretty well. Here’s how everything unfolded after two rounds of qualifying:

    #1 Steve Wiley – 4.122 at 158 mph
    #2 Doug Morales – 4.132 at 184 mph
    #3 Doug Riesterer – 4.135 at 152 mph
    #4 Rodney Parks – 4.275 at 166 mph
    #5 Kevin Hargett – 4.393 at 172 mph
#6 Chuck Poindexter – 4.821 at 149 mph **Best reaction time**
    #7 Charles Letteer – 5.001 at 120 mph
    #8 Gaylen Smith – 5.061 at 109 mph
    #9 Tim Cruce – 7.703 at 74 mph
    #10 Perry Dunn – NT

Tim Cruce did not get his hot rod ready in time so he brought out the wife’s truck to keep his attendance bonus points alive. Perry Dunn also showed up but unfortunately had issues which prevented him from attempting to qualify.
    First Round:

    Rodney Parks (W) 4.695 at 146 mph (.088 RT)
Kevin Hargett (RU) 4.947 at 130 mph (.105 RT)

I didn't see this run but it appears that neither car got the tune-up right.

    Charles Letteer (W) 4.888 at 116 mph (.125 RT)
Doug Morales (RU) 4.344 at 183 mph (-.118 RT) Red Light

Doug Morales turned on the right light giving the automatic win to Letteer and threw away a 4.34.

    Doug Riesterer (W) 4.643 at 117 mph (.113 RT)
    Chuck Poindexter (RU) NT

During qualifying Doug broke the wishbone under his car so they thrashed in between 2nd round qualifying and 1st round eliminations to get it welded. Chuck fired up in the staging lanes but the “boom” that he had during 2nd round qualifying proved to have been more than just a burst panel so he shut it off giving Doug a competition bye.

    Gaylen Smith (W) 4.604 at 143 mph (.062 RT)
Steve Wiley (RU) 4.725 at 128 mph (.068 RT)

Smith had a slight advantage and both cars peddled down the track but it was Smith who got to the stripe first with Wiley in tow. Wiley got out of shape, crossed the line and then finished in his own lane.

    Semi Finals:

    Doug Riesterer (W) 4.496 at 138 mph (.076 RT)
Charles Letteer (RU) 8.278 at 55 mph (.472 RT) Wake up Charles!

Not sure what happened on this run as we were in the staging lanes about to run.

    Gaylen Smith (W) 4.154 at 168 mph (.144 RT)
Rodney Parks (RU) 4.302 at 172 mph (.056 RT)

This was a good race. Smith gets to the stripe first for the win.

    Finals:

Gaylen Smith (W) 3.941 at 187 mph (.100 RT) **Low ET & Top MPH**
Doug Riesterer (RU) 5.603 at 80 mph (.193 RT)

Gaylen left first and never looked back. Riesterer had tire shake shortly after take-off and aborted the run.

Congratulations to Gaylen Smith and Team TBH for a well deserved win on Friday the 13th. Seems our lucky number didn’t let us down!! Congrats to Doug Riesterer and the Mad Scientist crew as well for the runner-up finish.

  • San Antonio Results -- Mrs. TBH, 14:01:47 06/09/14 Mon
The next stop on the 2014 TOPMA circuit took us down South to San Antonio Raceway on May 31st. Ten teams made the haul and here’s how everything unfolded:

    #1 Gaylen Smith – 3.982 @ 178 mph
    #2 Steve Wiley – 4.001 at 179 mph
    #3 Dennis Sugrue – 4.050 at 191 mph
    #4 Doug Riesterer – 4.092 at 182 mph
    #5 Doug Morales – 4.114 at 177 mph
    #6 Chris Domino – 4.140 at 172 mph
    #7 Bill Doucet – 4.165 at 171 mph
    #8 Perry Dunn – 4.167 at 172 mph
    #9 Kevin Hargett – 4.361 at 178 mph
#10 Chuck Poindexter – 5.086 at 142 mph **Best Reaction Time**

    First Round:

    Chris Domino (W) 4.225 at 170 mph (.123 RT)
Dennis Sugrue (RU) 4.248 at 178 mph (.153 RT)

This was a close race. Domino had a slight advantage on the tree and kept that advantage all the way to the finish line.

    Doug Riesterer (W) 3.973 at 189 mph (.039 RT)
Doug Morales (RU) 4.158 at 172 mph (-.017 RT) Red Light

Doug squared! Morales red lit giving the automatic win to Riesterer who was on a stellar pass in the other lane.

    Kevin Hargett (W) 7.175 at 130 mph (.405 RT)
Gaylen Smith (RU) 12.983 at 13 m ph (.207 RT)

Kevin filled in for Perry Dunn who broke a zoomie on the last qualifying pass. Gaylen launched and went nowhere later to find out we broke a quill shaft in the blower.

    Steve Wiley (W) 3.910 at 184 mph (.078 RT)
Bill Doucet (RU) 4.171 at 159 mph (.084 RT)

Both cars left pretty close together with a slight advantage going to Wiley and he maintained the lead to the finish line.

    Semi Finals:

    Steve Wiley (W) 3.825 at 200 mph (.204 RT)
Chris Domino (RU) 5.378 at 90 mph (.198 RT)

Again, both cars left almost dead even but Domino encountered tire shake and lifted and he could do is watch Wiley drive on for the win and what a win it was. Low ET and TOP MPH!

    Doug Riesterer (W) 4.000 at 187 mph (.232 RT)
Kevin Hargett (RU) 5.411 at 98 mph (.137 RT)

Kevin got the advantage but it was all over shortly after takeoff and Riesterer takes the win.

    Finals:

    Steve Wiley (W) 3.911 at 197 mph (.112 RT)
Doug Riesterer (RU) 5.890 at 74 mph (.132 RT)

Wiley leaves first and never looks back capturing his 5th straight TOPMA win. Congratulations to the entire TGR team and to Doug Riesterer for the runner-up finish as well.

Sorry for the late posting but here's what went down Friday night. First of all, I wasn't even on the property for first round qualifying and barely made 2nd round qualifying:

#1 Doug Riesterer - 4.024 at 181 mph (Low ET)
    #2 Steve Wiley - 4.066 at 182 mph
    #3 Chris Domino - 4.175 at 182 mph
    #4 Tim Cruce - 4.182 at 175 mph
    #5 Eddie Roach - 4.296 at 172 mph
    #6 Rodney Parks - 4.424 at 165 mph
    #7 Doug Morales - 4.441 at 129 mph
    #8 Kevin Hargett - 4.444 at 175 mph
    #9 Chuck Poindexter - 4.696 at 164 mph
    #10 Dennis Hendrix - 4.815 at 151 mph
    #11 Jason McFarland - 4.823 at 149 mph
    #12 Gaylen Smith - 4.901 at 108 mph
    #13 Perry Dunn - 4.968 at 115 mph
    #14 Greg Green - 5.789 at 83 mph
    #15 Charles Letteer - 6.166 at 81 mph

    First Round:

    Tim Cruce (W) 4.176 at 174 mph (.020 RT)
Eddie Roach (RU) 4.358 at 170 mph (-.106 RT) Red light

Steve Wiley (W) 4.070 at 187 mph (.077 RT) Top MPH
Doug Morales (RU) 5.735 at 87 mph (-.012 RT) Red light

    Rodney Parks (W) 4.731 at 127 mph (.023 RT)
Chuck Poindexter (RU) 4.688 at 163 mph (-.006 RT) Red light

Chuck filled in for Chris Domino who burnt a piston during qualifying and was unable to make the call for first round.

Kevin Hargett (W) 4.548 at 559 mph (.004 RT) Best Reaction Time. No, that's not a typo by me. My paperwork says 559 mph, however we know this to be bogus.
Doug Riesterer (RU) 4.404 at 168 mph (.127 RT)

Doug gets the win light but he hit a cone which disqualified him.

    Semi-Finals:

    Tim Cruce (W) 4.205 at 168 mph (.032 RT)
Kevin Hargett (RU) 4.948 at 135 mph (.015 RT)

    Finals:

    Steve Wiley (W) 4.111 at 185 mph (.093 RT)
Tim Cruce (RU) 5.963 at 82 mph (.054 RT)

Congratulations to Steve Wiley and the TGR team for their 3rd victory in a row at Texas Raceway. Also, a big congrats to Tim Cruce for his stellar performance and runner-up finish.

  • Why did the pro mods only run 4.0's Friday night? In Rockingham the cars ran 3.50's with similar weather and daytime temps had been close to the same so track temps were good as well. Since we learned last month that Kennedale does good track prep then we must assume that our TOPMA racers are incapable of tuning their cars to run those ET's or that they have inferior cars/parts. -- Racers Please Tell Us Fans What Happened, 19:37:09 04/14/14 Mon

  • It sure was fun back in the day when the racers used to use this forum as a place to have fun and talk shit to one another. Now it's a sounding board for fans who want to see national event type performance at a local event and bitch about how the racers and tuners can't keep up. Keep in mind this is a HOBBY for 99.9% of the teams running TOPMA. We don't have the luxury of playing with these toys 12 hrs a day / 7 days a week, we can't afford to go testing every other weekend, we don't have the budget to run our equipment to it's limits because we don't have extra parts sitting around to rebuild when they blow up. We are all busy running our businesses, going to our jobs, spending time with our families, and raising our kids. We do this for FUN. I'm sorry your expectations aren't met when you come to a race. You are one of the very few that feel that way. As we are servicing our cars between rounds, there is a constant stream of fans coming by saying how much they are enjoying it. -- SHP, 10:55:35 04/15/14 Tue

  • TOPMA Results - TXR 4/11/14 -- Mrs. TBH, 14:02:15 04/12/14 Sat
The weather was nice in Kennedale America last night, a little windy, but nice overall. Twelve Pro Mod teams showed up to try their luck at the winner's circle and here's how everything unfolded after 2 rounds of qualifying:

#1 Gaylen Smith - 4.092 at 171 mph (Low ET)
    #2 Steve Wiley - 4.095 at 165 mph
    #3 Eddie Roach - 4.321 at 171 mph
    #4 Tim Cruce - 4.356 at 150 mph
    #5 Kevin Hargett - 4.410 at 182 mph
    #6 Greg Green - 4.685 at 142 mph
    #7 Rodney Parks - 4.760 at 127 mph
    #8 Doug Morales - 4.895 at 115 mph
    #9 Chuck Poindexter - 4.936 at 156 mph
#10 Darren Inman - 4.959 at 141 mph (Welcome back)
    #11 Charles Letteer - 5.086 at 127 mph
    #12 Perry Dunn - 6.590 at 65 mph

    First Round:

    Steve Wiley (W) 4.121 at 183 mph (.145 RT)
Rodney Parks (RU) 5.377 at 96 mph (.044 RT)

Rodney gets the holeshot advantage but it was all HEMI after that.

    Eddie Roach (W) 4.400 at 162 mph (.070 RT)
Greg Green (RU) 4.600 at 146 mph (.002 RT) Best reaction time

Greg Green did his job on the starting line but Eddie drove around for the win.

Kevin Hargett (W) 4.343 at 186 mph (.053 RT) Top MPH
Tim Cruce (RU) 4.358 at 165 mph (.073 RT)

This was a close race on paper, an upset win. I didn't see it because we were the next pair in the staging lanes but we heard the crowd erupt so we knew it was close, later to find out they were probably reacting to Hargett losing the back glass out of his car as a result of the inner-cooler blowing apart inside the car.

    Gaylen Smith (W) 4.226 at 145 mph (.052 RT)
Doug Morales (RU) 5.099 at 105 mph (.058 RT)

Both cars left almost together, Smith with the slight advantage, they were on and off the peddle with Gaylen taking the stripe first.

    Semi's:

    Steve Wiley (W) 4.171 at 183 mph (.115 RT)
Eddie Roach (RU) 8.218 at 55 mph (.045 RT)

Eddie was away first but encountered tire shake and Wiley cruises by for the win.

Gaylen Smith (W) 4.173 at 177 mph (.180 RT) Competition bye
    Kevin Hargett (RU) No Time

Since we had a competition bye, we tried something a little different on the tune-up (which didn't work by the way)! Went back to do normal routine maintenance on the car and found a broke rocker arm which in turn mushroomed a pushrod so we thrashed to get that fixed, borrowing one from Wiley, our competition for the final. Wiley also came down and helped us change it (I Love the TOPMA camaraderie).

    Finals:

    Steve Wiley (W) 4.093 at 183 mph (.022 RT)
Gaylen Smith (RU) 4.157 at 154 mph (.118 RT)

Wiley gets away first and never looks back taking the win. Congrats to Steve Wiley and Team TGR on their back to back wins. I also want to congratulate our team on their runner-up finish. After missing the first race of the season we were stoked to get back at it but it didn't come without issues. We were fighting little demons every round and came away with a runner-up finish so we are very pleased.

I seen that Bubba was organizing the show Friday and looked to go smoothly. That seems to be a step in the right direction. Now if the track will put him back in charge of TRACK PREP I think the show will be even better. When Bubba was in charge of track prep in the past we got to see promods running 3.80-3.90s and even some 3.70s at times. I hope the track reads this and takes it into consideration.

  • Why not charge an entry fee and get rid of all of the cars that have no business racing in the pro mod class? Pay the entry fee back to the semi finals and up and leave qualifying money where it is. This will rid TOPMA of cars that have no business racing pro mod and cut back on the low quality of racing. This would also be an incentive for other cars to make the trip then we could have a real promod show. -- I hope the rest of the season isn't like this., 00:34:57 03/15/14 Sat

Since this was an unusual night and we did not get to "race", Gaylen told all the drivers at the back of the staging lanes that he would give everyone the same amount of points for showing up and attempting to qualify. We completed 2 rounds of qualifying, so the qualifying and bonus points were awarded as normal. Since we ran out of time, he felt like it was only fair to give Doug and Steve 10 extra points since they did make a final run.

  • TXR TOPMA Results - March 14, 2014 -- Mrs. TBH, 21:59:37 03/16/14 Sun
After a very long, cold winter it was evident that every drag racer and fan had cabin fever because the TOPMA season opener at Texas Raceway had a big car count and an even bigger fan count. The weather was decent but some would think this was a Friday the 13th. There was a couple of oil downs including anti-freeze spills out of the test and tune lanes which led to several lengthy clean-ups and a couple of mishaps leading to contact with the wall on two occasions out of the Pro Mod lanes added to the clean-ups which pushed us up against father time. The Pro Mods completed two rounds of qualifying and had enough time to run a final round between #1 and #2 qualifiers. Here's how qualifying ended up:

#1 Doug Riesterer - 4.150 at 183 mph (Low ET and Top MPH)
    #2 Steve Wiley - 4.199 at 157 mph
    #3 Brandon Lewis - 4.363 at 151 mph
    #4 Doug Morales - 4.371 at 167 mph
    #5 Rodney Parks - 4.581 at 139 mph
    #6 Bob Alexander - 4.618 at 113 mph
    #7 Gaylen Smith - 4.718 at 148 mph
#8 Chuck Poindexter - 4.860 at 150 mph (Best Reaction Time)
    #9 Charles Letteer - 4.866 at 116 mph
    #10 Kevin Hargett - 5.057 at 140 mph
    #11 Robert Rankin - 5.427 at 101 mph
    #12 Perry Dunn - 5.953 at 69 mph
    #13 Mat Thomas - 5.956 at 81 mph
    #14 Shane Thompson - 6.236 at 110 mph
    #15 Chad Sheffield - 6.906 at 56 mph
    #16 Eddie Roach - 12.794 at 46 mph
    #17 Tim Cruce - 18.44 at 23 mph
    #18 Jackie Deaver - NT

    Steve Wiley (W) 5.268 at 95 mph (.126 RT)
Doug Riesterer (RU) 4.792 at 106 mph (-.011 RT) Redlight

Congratulations to Steve Wiley and the TGR Crew on your victory and Doug Riesterer and crew for your runner-up finish as well.
