With Deep Regret, Dallas Raceway was sold and will no longer be a racing facility. We, the Dallas Raceway staff, appreciate everyone who supported us the past two years. We are still getting a date together for the end of 2013 Banquet. Stay tuned for that announcement. We are sorry and Ken tried all he could to continue to race for the 2014 season, thus why no announcement until now.

  • TXR Results - October 11, 2013 -- Mrs. TBH, 16:11:46 10/12/13 Sat
Well, this is it. The final points race of the season. The championship would be settled tonight. After 2 rounds of qualifying, here's how it all unfolded.

    #1 Gaylen Smith - 3.934 at 188 mph
    #2 Doug Riesterer - 4.072 at 182 mph
#3 Steve Wiley - 4.138 at 158 mph **Winner of Bonu$ money for closest to 4.15 during qualifying.
#4 Eric Clark - 4.264 at 151 mph **Winner of Bonu$ money for clostest to 4.30 during qualifying.
    #5 Frankie Taylor - 4.418 at 154 mph
    #6 Tim Cruce - 4.451 at 168 mph
    #7 Eddie Roach - 4.525 at 162 mph
    #8 Jay Ligon - 4.542 at 153 mph
    #9 Shane Thompson - 4.615 at 151 mph
#10 Chuck Poindexter - 4.644 at 145 mph **Best Reaction Time
    #11 Perry Dunn - 4.817 at 105 mph
    #12 Kevin Hargett - 6.134 at 82 mph
    #13 Greg Green - 6.197 at 74 mph

    First round:

    Steve Wiley (W) 4.056 at 183 mph (.044 RT)
Tim Cruce (RU) 4.924 at 119 mph (.146 RT)

Wiley sat out 2nd round of qualifying to fix the zoomie he broke during first round of qualifying. Both cars peddled but Wiley came out on top.

    Doug Riesterer (W) 4.317 at 137 mph (.103 RT)
Eddie Roach (RU) 4.458 at 160 mph (.030 RT)

This was a pretty close race on the track due to the reaction times. Doug was playing catch up and in the process he might have burnt something up. Eddie got the holeshot, but it wasn't enough to hold off the monster motor in the other lane.

    Gaylen Smith (W) 4.044 at 184 mph (.079 RT)
Jay Ligon (RU) 9.141 at 53 mph (.028 RT)

Jay gets the advantage on the tree but immediately blew the tires off and got sideways. Gaylen was trying a new combination and streaks by for the off-paced win. Note to self: This combination doesn't work!

    Frankie Taylor (W) 3.901 at 194 mph (.029 RT)
Eric Clark (RU) 3.980 at 152 mph (.035 RT)

Frankie gets the advantage off the tree and never looks back. Clark improved on his qualifying effort but it just wasn't enough.

    Semi's:

Steve Wiley (W) 4.114 at 168 mph (.110 RT) *Competition Bye
    Doug Riesterer (RU) No Time

Doug hurt the motor in first round and was unable to make the call giving Wiley a bye run into the finals.

    Frankie Taylor (W) 3.897 at 186 mph (.056 RT)
Gaylen Smith (RU) 4.010 at 167 mph (.059 RT)

Both cars left pretty close together but Frankie pulls away for the win.

    Finals:

Frankie Taylor (W) 3.894 at 196 mph (.066 RT) *Low ET & Top MPH
Steve Wiley (RU) 3.941 at 183 mph (.075 RT)

Wiley steps it up in the finals but it wasn't enough to overcome the slight starting line advantage or the Hemi in the other lane.

Congratulations to Team Taylor for their victory and to Steve Wiley and Team TGR for their runner-up finish as well.

Congratulations to Gaylen Smith and Team TBH for the 3-peat TOPMA championship! This makes Gaylen and company a 5 time TOPMA champion which is not easy to do with all the stout competition out there!! (2003/2004; 2011/2012/2013) I'm one very proud wife!

  • TOPMA - Texas Raceway, Oct 11, 2013 -- TOPMA, 11:52:00 10/04/13 Fri
Calling all Pro Mods! Once again we have “bonus dollars” during qualifying only for cars running closest to a 4.15 and 4.30 at the year-end race on Oct 11, 2013 at Texas Raceway. If you run closest to a 4.15 during qualifying, you will receive a check for $200 made possible by Evolution Customs and Big Worm Graphix. If you run closest to a 4.30 during qualifying, you will receive a check for $100 made possible by Bubba’s Tow and a $100 Gift Certificate from Speedtech. According to the long range forecast, we should see mid 80’s as the high and mid 60’s for the low. You won’t want to miss this one!

  • Texas Raceway Results - Friday the 13th -- Mrs. TBH, 17:18:16 09/14/13 Sat
Friday the 13th didn’t scare off 14 Pro Mod teams who came out and put their superstitions behind them trying to get a victory on this historically weird night. After 2 rounds of qualifying, here’s what went down:

#1 Dwayne Watkins – 3.820 at 204 mph *Track Record MPH, Low ET & Top MPH
    #2 Gaylen Smith – 4.021 at 157 mph
    #3 Steve Wiley – 4.069 at 183 mph
#4 Doug Riesterer – 4.188 at 168 mph *Closest to 4.20 during qualifying winner
    #5 Eric Clark – 4.248 at 135 mph
    #6 Rodney Parks – 4.326 at 162 mph
    #7 Tim Cruce – 4.385 at 158 mph
#8 Eddie Roach – 4.451 at 157 mph *Closest to 4.50 during qualifying winner
    #9 Jay Ligon – 4.602 at 150 mph
    #10 Chuck Poindexter – 4.651 at 152 mph
#11 Charles Letteer – 4.742 at 114 mph (Glad to see you back out Charles)
    #12 Doug Morales – 4.906 at 160 mph
    #13 Thomas Myers – 4.985 at 116 mph
    #14 Dennis Hendrix – 5.436 at 104 mph

    First Round:

    Steve Wiley (W) 4.090 at 172 mph (.313 RT)
    Rodney Parks (RU) NT

Friday the 13th gets Rodney Parks….his GTO won’t fire in the staging lanes giving Wiley the competition bye run.

    Doug Riesterer (W) 4.201 at 171mph (.101 RT)
    Eric Clark (RU) NT

Friday the 13th gets Eric Clark….his car taps the wall in the burn-out disqualifying him from competition giving Riesterer the competition bye run.

    Gaylen Smith (W) 3.953 at 183 mph (.074 RT)
Tim Cruce (RU) 4.290 at 176 mph (.136 RT)

Even though Tim loses this round, he has a smile on his face because he seems to be shaking some gremlins loose and makes a nice run. After breaking another new belt during 2nd round qualifying, Gaylen goes back to a used belt which held on for the win.

    Dwayne Watkins (W) 3.951 at 190 mph (.152 RT)
Eddie Roach (RU) 5.180 at 106 mph (.118 RT)

Eddie encounters traction problems and has to lift; meanwhile Watkins is peddling in the other lane for the win.

    Semi-Finals:

Gaylen Smith (W) 3.943 at 185 mph (.027 RT) *Best Reaction Time
Steve Wiley (RU) 4.239 at 146 mph (-.003 RT) Red Light

Friday the 13th gets Wiley too as he leaves just 3 thousandths too soon. Meanwhile, in the other lane, the belt stays on and the Texas Bounty Hunter grabs the win and Best Reaction Time.

    Dwayne Watkins (W) 3.930 at 201 mph (.107 RT)
Doug Riesterer (RU) 3.998 at 184 mph (.136 RT)

Side by Side Blown *vs* Nitrous racing; it don’t get much better than that! Doug seems to have hit the tune up but is tardy on the tree. Watkins makes another 200+ mph run and captures the win.

    Finals:

    Gaylen Smith (W) 25.30 at 23 mph (.056 RT)
    Dwayne Watkins (RU) NT

Friday the 13th gets Dwayne….. Something goes wrong and he shuts his car off after the burnout giving Gaylen the competition bye run for the win. At the hit of the throttle, Gaylen looses another belt and coasts to the finish line for the win.

On a day when most people think Friday the 13th brings them bad luck, one guy seems to have good luck. This is not the first time Gaylen has won on Friday the 13th. Without saying, 13 is our lucky number. Congratulations to Gaylen Smith and Team TBH for their 5th victory at Texas Raceway in the 2013 season. Congrats to Dwayne Watkins and crew for the runner-up finish and track record MPH. Thanks for making the haul from Rosemark, TN to come play with us Texas Boyz.

Thank you Cindi and to the staff of Texas Raceway!

    #8 Kevin Hargett – 4.668 at 170 mph
    #9 Chuck Poindexter – 4.707 at 149 mph
    #10 Bob Rankin – 4.750 at 142 mph
    First Round:
    Dennis Segrue (W) 4.128 at 185 mph (.075 RT)
Doug Morales (RU) 4.184 at 175 mph (.039 RT)

This was a great race. Morales made his best lap of the night and a holeshot advantage but it wasn’t enough to hold off the turbo entry of Segrue.

Eric Clark (W) 3.970 at 193 mph (.046 RT) *Top MPH
Doug Riesterer (RU) 4.028 at 187 mph (.037 RT)

This was another great close race and despite the slight holeshot advantage by Riesterer, it was Clark claiming the victory.

Steve Wiley (W) 3.912 at 192 mph (.118 RT) *Low ET of the event
Alamo Hot Rod (Sorry, don’t know his name) (RU) 4.599 at 152 mph (.006 RT)

Gotta hand it to the local guy, he was going for the upset win with his great reaction time but it wasn’t enough to hold off the TX Grim Reaper in the other lane.

    Kevin Hargett (W) 4.985 at 165 mph (.183 RT)
Gaylen Smith (RU) 27.11 at 9 mph (.067 RT)

What can I say, we put a new belt on for first round like we always do and at the hit of the throttle, the belt lets go. Hargett gets the upset win!

    Semi-Finals:

    Eric Clark (W) 3.936 at 191 mph (.036 RT)
Steve Wiley (RU) 3.916 at 191 mph (.078 RT)

Side by side 3 second racing; Clark wins on a hole shot.

    Dennis Segrue (W) 4.190 at 186 mph (.061 RT)
Kevin Hargett (RU) 4.505 at 174 mph (.056 RT)

Turbo *vs* Turbo - Hargett gave it his all (on skinnies at that) but Segrue was proving to himself after a near fatal crash at this same track several years prior that he ain’t skerd.

    Finals:

    Eric Clark (W) NT
    Dennis Segrue (RU) NT

Eric was on a solo run since Dennis hurt the motor on his Turbo entry in the semi’s so he stepped it up to see what the track would hold and just as he revved the motor on the 2-Step, the flap that protects the timing system beams from rain closed so even though Clark got the green light on the tree, it looked as if Eric never took off. Eric was on a pretty good run but nobody knows what he ran. All we know is that he got the win. Congratulations to Eric Clark and the entire Clark Bros., crew for their 2nd victory and also to Dennis Segrue for the runner-up finish.

On behalf of all TOPMA racers, thank you San Antonio Raceway for hosting an event on our 2013 Tour.

  • Is it possible to get a points update? I hear things are really close and have heard people say 4 points, 9 points, 65 points and all different things. As a fan, it is just more exciting when you know what is going on as far as the big picture. With all of the stuff going on with TAO, that leaves TOPMA as the one and only to keep up with. Thanks in advance. -- ProModFan, 15:41:03 09/13/13 Fri

  • Gaylen As the TOPMA season is coming to an end and the points chase is getting tighter I just had a couple of questions... as a racer I was under the understanding that it was decided a few years ago that we would NO LONGER award track record "bonus points" because at the time it would only benefit a couple of teams ( YOU ) being one of them... but I see this year that YOU have awarded track record points and YOU are the beneficiary... in todays times its hard enough to keep these cars running and try and race/win a championship but lets be honest GAYLEN .. is this how you really want to win... ???? shouldnt you actually have to out run some folks and go some rounds and WIN some races to be the REAL champ???? Not really trying to stir the pot too much but RIGHT is RIGHT and i was just wondering when we changed back to giving points for this.. -- PM RACER, 14:06:08 09/10/13 Tue

If you make a lap in your car and no time is given due to a clock malfunction, Why would anyone say that it ran a certain time? With out the clocks you don't know that a 100%. You can speculate what it "would have been or could of been" but in all actuality you have NO proof. Just clearing the air!!! Nice press though. Lol

  • TXR Results - August 9th -- Mrs. TBH, 22:50:46 08/11/13 Sun
On this HOT August night there were 10 Pro Mod teams on the property at Texas Raceway (aka The Fastest Little Dragstrip in Texas) in Kennedale, America. After two smoldering rounds of qualifying, here's how everything went down:

    #1 Gaylen Smith - 3.931 at 185 mph
    #2 Eric Clark - 3.967 at 192 mph
    #3 Steve Wiley - 4.050 at 155 mph
    #4 Doug Riesterer - 4.150 at 174 mph
    #5 Jim Brinkerhoff - 4.250 at 170 mph
    #6 Rodney Parks - 4.322 at 172 mph
    #7 Thomas Myers - 4.477 at 156 mph
    #8 Chuck Poindexter - 4.656 at 150 mph
    #9 Eddie Roach - 4.738 at 150 mph
    #10 Bob Rankin - 5.209 at 114 mph

    First Round:

    Gaylen Smith (W) 4.372 at 140 mph (.106 RT)
    Chuck Poindexter (RU) NT

When the ambers lit up it was all over for Poindexter. The Luvamaro didn't move off the starting line. Something went amiss with the ignition. Gaylen was on and off the throttle peddaling for the win.

    Steve Wiley (W) 4.296 at 158 mph (.112 RT)
Rodney Parks (RU) 4.642 at 153 mph (.040 RT)

Rodney gets off the line first but it was Wiley peddaling for the win.

    Doug Riesterer (W) 4.275 at 185 mph (.057 RT)
Jim Brinkerhoff (RU) 4.332 at 163 mph (.098 RT)

Battle of the nitrous cars! Doug gets away first and peddles along side of Brinkerhoff. Doug gets to the stripe first. It wasn't pretty but a win is a win.

    Eric Clark (W) 3.984 at 189 mph (.131 RT)
Thomas Myers (RU) 4.207 at 159 mph (.089 RT)

Still plagued by handling problems, Myers tries to manhandle his Camaro for the win but Eric was on a nice clean run taking the win.

    Semi's:

    Steve Wiley (W) 3.944 at 196 mph (.054 RT)
Eric Clark (RU) 3.968 at 195 mph (.219 RT)

Wiley gets the huge hole shot advantage and never looks back leaving Eric at the line catching a nap.

    Gaylen Smith (W) 3.926 at 187 mph (.091 RT)
Doug Riesterer (RU) 4.392 at 145 mph (.074 RT)

Doug leaves first but encounters tire shake shortly after take-off and peddles but Gaylen streaks by him on a nice run clocking low ET of the night (so far)....

    Finals:

This was an ALL SMITH MOTORSPORTS final. There has been smack talk at the shop all week long leading up to tonight and now we get to see who's the BOSS (sorry, couldn't resist).

Gaylen Smith (W) 3.894 at 189 mph (.221 RT) **Low ET**
Steve Wiley (RU) 3.980 at 195 mph (.156 RT) **Top MPH**

When our win light came on, I turned to the rest of the crew to high five them and then I turned back around to make sure they both made the corner and I noticed a cloud of dust in Steve's lane and then I saw Gaylen come to an abrupt stop in the sand pit. Once we got down to the finish line we saw that Steve had introduced himself to the concrete wall and Gaylen was just trying to get out of his way. Gaylen jumped out of his car and ran over to see if Steve was okay. Steve was obviously shaken a bit but physically okay (thank goodness). The car will need a little cosmetic surgery and possibly a new front end but at 195 mph, it could have been a lot worse. Our car sustained very little damage when it dug into the sand pit. A little fiberglass work to the front and a bandaid and we'll be good as new. Congratulations to Gaylen Smith and Team TBH for the victory and to Steve Wiley and the TGR team, congrats on your runner-up and great news that Steve is okay.

  • Thunder Valley Results - 7/20/13 -- Mrs. TBH, 00:10:37 07/23/13 Tue
The Texas Outlaw Pro Mods traveled north of the Texas border on I-35 to play with the Okies! There were 12 teams who braved the heat wave to check out the improved racing surface at Thunder Valley in Noble, OK. Just as the teams were about to fire up for first round qualifying, Nic comes running down from the tower telling us the whole track lost power. Later, we found out that a transformer had blown in the area and crews were on-site with the repairs. After about an hour delay, we were finally ready to get this show started. Gaylen Smith and Chad Sheffield were the first two down the track and Larry stood on the starting line biting his nails in hopes that his hard work had paid off! Gaylen busted off a 3.94 at 184 mph and Wiley, which was the 2nd pair down ran a close 4.05 and I saw a huge sigh of relief on Larry's face so now it was down to business. Here's how qualifying ended up:

#1 Steve Wiley - 3.936 at 190 mph (Low ET and Top MPH)
    #2 Gaylen Smith - 3.944 at 184 mph
#3 Randy Brewer - 4.170 at 182 mph (Welcome back Randy and the AMX crew)
    #4 Jim Brinkerhoff - 4.360 at 164 mph
#5 Mike Henson - 4.422 at 166 mph (New member Henson Racing Engines)
    #6 Chad Sheffield - 4.472 at 136 mph
#7 Mat Thomas - 4.555 at 156 mph (New member)
    #8 Rusty Beaver - 4.569 at 163 mph
#9 Rick Sneft - 4.571 at 164 mph (New member)
    #10 Terry Holly - 4.634 at 155 mph
    #11 Chuck Poindexter - 4.750 at 147 mph
#12 Doug Morales - 4.882 at 122 mph (After not qualifying, Doug made a few adjustments and later ran a 4.30 clicking it early) Good job guys!!

    First Round:

    Steve Wiley (W) 3.951 at 189 mph (.180 RT)
Rusty Beaver (RU) 4.581 at 160 mph (.025 RT)

Rusty got out of the gate first but the Texas Grim Reaper powered by for the win.

    Gaylen Smith (W) 3.948 at 184 mph (.143 RT)
Mat Thomas (RU) 4.563 at 155 mph (.028 RT)

Mat got the holeshot advantage but the Texas Bounty Hunter's hemi powered '57 Chevy was collecting the win in the other lane.

    Mike Henson (W) 4.431 at 164 mph (.062 RT)
Jim Brinkerhoff (RU) 5.621 at 91 mph (.133 RT)

Henson Racing Engines gets a win for OK but later found it to be a costly win. He pushed out a head gasket on that run and was unable to make the semi's.

    Chuck Poindexter (W) 4.699 at 152 mph (.074 RT)
    Chad Sheffield (RU) NT

Chad spits the blower belt off at the hit and Poindexter, who was the 3rd alternate filling in for Randy Brewer, cruises by for the win.

    Semi's:

    Chuck Poindexter (W) 5.058 at 135 mph (.007 RT)
Gaylen Smith (RU) 5.572 at 82 mph (.179 RT)

Chuck gets the holeshot, Gaylen streaks past him going for the win and then the top pulley sheared off all the bolts sending the pulley tumbling down the hood of the car and rolling down track and there is nothing Smith can do but watch the Luvamaro drive by for the win.

Steve Wiley (W) No Time (Competition Bye)
    Mike Henson (RU) No Time

As I mentioned earlier, Henson pushed out a head gasket and was unable to make the call. Wiley decided to break the beam and save the run for the finals.

    Finals:

    Steve Wiley (W) 4.293 at 130 mph (.201 RT)
Chuck Poindexter (RU) 4.755 at 140 mph (.004 RT) Best reaction time of the night.

Wake up Wiley! Chuck cuts the best light of the night but it wasn't enough to overcome the Texas Grim Reaper who popped the blower shortly after half track and coasted across the finish line for the win......on fire!

Congratulations to Steve Wiley and the entire TGR team for their victory and also to Chuck Poindexter for his runner-up finish coming from the #11 position. Great job guys!!

On behalf of the Texas Outlaw Pro Mod Association, I would like to thank Larry and Jan along with the entire staff of Thunder Valley Raceway for an awesome night of racing.

    #5 Thomas Myers - 4.177 at 173 mph
    #6 Jim Brinkerhoff - 4.254 at 177 mph
    #7 Tim Cruce - 4.290 at 169 mph
    #8 Bob Alexander - 4.480 at 159 mph
    #9 Eddie Roach - 4.497 at 165 mph
    #10 Doug Morales - 4.525 at 160 mph
    #11 Kevin Hargett - 4.599 at 169 mph
#12 Chuck Poindexter - 4.665 at 152 mph **Best Reaction Time**
    #13 Bob Rankin - 4.966 at 150 mph
#14 Perry Dunn - NT Broke on the burnout

    First Round:

Steve Wiley (W) 3.962 at 196 mph (.271 RT) Snoozing
Tim Cruce (RU) 4.282 at 172 mph (.031 RT)

Not sure what Wiley was thinking about but he was playing catch-up all the way down track. Tim had the holeshot advantage but Wiley's hard charging HEMI was too much to handle.

    Eric Clark (W) 3.934 at 194 mph (.029 RT)
Jim Brinkerhoff (RU) 4.270 at 144 mph (.059 RT)

Both cars had good reaction times but Eric had the advantage and kept the lead all the way to the stripe.

    Doug Riesterer (W) 4.014 at 191 mph (.072 RT)
Thomas Myers (RU) 4.259 at 140 mph (.167 RT)

Doug gets away first and doesn't look back. Thomas was manhandling his Camaro all night.

Gaylen Smith (W) 3.867 at 192 mph (.116 RT) **Low ET**
Eddie Roach (RU) 43.250 at NO mph (.392 RT)

I don't know what happened to Eddie but he stopped just after the launch, meanwhile the Texas Bounty Hunter ran the low ET of the night in the Smith Motorsports lane.

    Semi's:

    Eric Clark (W) 3.904 at 197 mph (.046 RT)
Steve Wiley (RU) 3.920 at 198 mph (.047 RT)

I was in the staging lanes and didn't see this race but it looks good on paper so I know the fans must have loved it. Side by side 3.90 passes at almost 200 mph in both lanes. It doesn't get much better than that!

    Gaylen Smith (W) 4.099 at 166 mph (.050 RT)
Doug Riesterer (RU) 4.162 at 186 mph (.049 RT)

This race was a nail biter for me. We discovered a broke valve spring but didn't have time to change it so we plugged off that cylinder and decided to give Doug a race because we KNOW he is capable of stepping up and running a 3.7 at any time. Luckily for us, Doug was having problems in the Smith Motorsports lane and we snuck by him for the win.

    Final Round:

    Eric Clark (W) 3.920 at 195 mph (.052 RT)
Gaylen Smith (RU) NT (.083 RT)

After the semi's, Clark Brothers loaned us the tool we needed to replace the valve spring (thank you very much) but it was the blower belt that broke at the hit of the throttle that ended our night, oh...and the fact that Eric was on a nice clean run in the other lane taking the win.

Congratulations to Eric Clark and the entire Clark Bros. team for their victory and to the Texas Bounty Hunter team for their runner-up finish as well.

On behalf of our cousin, Donna Satterwhite, I'd like to thank all the people who participated in the bake sale and bike raffle; whether you donated items, baked goods or your hard earned money, it was truly appreciated. You raised $1,794.80 and Texas Raceway matched that. Thank you VERY MUCH!!
