  • Dallas Raceway Results 7/18/09 -- Mrs. TBH, 23:07:26 07/19/09 Sun
Last nights show was a late show but I want to commend the track clean-up crew for giving us a great racing surface everytime it was oiled down and they earned their pay last night. Yes, there were a few issues but I feel the new facility will learn from each and every race and move forward. There were 10 PRO MOD teams (not 2) that rolled into the concrete palace and after two rounds of qualifying, here's what went down:

    #1 Gaylen Smith - 3.940 at 196 mph
    #2 Gene Hector - 3.993 at 181 mph
    #3 Thomas Myers - 4.038 at 186 mph
    #4 Chris Smith - 4.144 at 161 mph
#5 Don Wootton - 4.281 at 165 mph (Expired the motor)
    #6 Ken Thomas - 4.441 at 141 mph
    #7 Jackie Deaver - 4.510 at 157 mph
    #8 Randy Brewer - 5.106 at 159 mph
    #9 Michelle Wilson - 7.356 at 61 mph
    #10 Chuck Nuytten - 7.499 at 89 mph

    First round:

    Chris Smith (W) 4.090 at 163 mph (.057 RT)
Michelle Wilson (RU) 8.281 at 53 mph (.062 RT)

Michelle filled in for Don Wootten who expired an engine in 2nd round qualfiying. Michelle never got a hold of the track meanwhile Chris Smith cruised right down the LenMar Motorsports lane and takes the win on a nice strong pass.

    Thomas Myers (W) 4.082 at 180 mph (.067 RT)
Ken Thomas (RU) 4.104 at 178 mph (.063 RT)

This was a GREAT race. Ken Thomas had a slight starting line advantage but Thomas Myers had the ET to get the job done.

    Gene Hector (W) 3.986 at 182 mph (.048 RT)
Jackie Deaver (RU) 4.315 at 166 mph (-.001 RT)

Jackie needed a holeshot advantage but unfortunately for him, he left .001 too soon and Gene backs up this qualifying number.

    Gaylen Smith (W) 4.587 at 126 mph (.054 RT)
Randy Brewer (RU) 4.460 at 162 mph (.275 RT)

Randy struggled during qualifying trying to get a combination for this race track and even though he finally got A to B somewhat under power, he left the starting line way late and that worked to Gaylen's advantage. Gaylen left on 7 cylinders and bulldozed his way to the win then pulled over to the side of track because he knew something broke in the rear-end (he didn't want the track crew to have to clean up another mess).

    Semi Finals:

    Thomas Myers (W) 4.056 at 182 mph (.067 RT)
Gene Hector (RU) NO Time (.076 RT)

Thomas left first and never looked back and that was a good thing cuz he would have seen Gene Hector on 2 wheels in his lane. It looked like Gene blew the tires off and the "original" Small Block Mafia Corvette started washing the back end out and finally ended up swiping the wall in Thomas' lane before coasting to a stop. Glad you're ok, Gene.

    Gaylen Smith (W)
    Chris Smith (RU)

A computer glitch prevented the timing system from working on this run but Chris aborted his run after encountering traction problems and Gaylen was on a great run after changing spark plug wires, rear-end and transmission. We really needed to know what we ran but we did get our own computer reading and had the car ready for the final round.

    Final round:

    Thomas Myers (W) 8.10 at 67 mph (.116 RT)
Gaylen Smith (RU) 3.98 at 194 mph (-.021 RT)

As Gaylen was rolling into the beams the car never stopped rolling and he couldn't hold it so he rolled the beams giving he automatic win to Thomas Myers. I talked to Thomas later and he said he had his hopped up and as soon as he unclutched it, he just lit the tires up.

Congratulations to Thomas & Rebecca Myers for your first 2009 Victory. Congratulations to Team TBH as well for your runner-up finish. 10-2 round record AIN'T bad.

Thanks to all the fans who came out and especially to those who were still around for a very late final round. We appreciate you very much!

  • Dallas Raceway - 7/18/2009 -- TOPMA/ADRL Fan, 12:48:14 07/19/09 Sun
    Q-finals:
    Michelle Wilson vs Chris Smith
Smith wins with a 4.09 at 163 mph

    Ken Thomas vs Thomas Meyers
Meyers wins with a 4.08 at 181 mph

    Gene Hector vs Jackie Deaver
Hector wins with a 3.98 at 182 mph

    Gaylen Smith vs Randy Brewer
    Smith wins with a 4.58

    Semi-finals:
    Gene Hector vs Thomas Meyers
Meyers wins with a 4.05 at 183 mph
-Gene in the left lane took a hard right at about 75' and crossed the center line, then did a great job keeping the car under control, but eventually hit the right wall. Gene is OK. The '63 Vette is fixable and not nearly as bad as it could have been.

    Gaylen Smith vs Chris Smith
    G. Smith wins. The timing was messed up but Gaylen looked to be on another sub 4 second run.

    Finals:
    Gaylen Smith vs Thomas Meyers
Meyers wins with a 8.10 at 67 mph.
Gaylen redlit but ran 3.98 at 194.8 mph.

The Finals were run at 3:30am. Dallas Raceway is going to have to speed up the track cleaning process. There were several oil downs. They were already running way late and there were Pro Mods ready to go in the staging lanes, they still sent motorcycles and fun-n-grudgers, and then another oildown!! I say if the Pro Mods are ready - run 'em and let those other people wait. It shouldn't take 45 minutes to an hour to clean up, other tracks get it done much faster. Dallas Raceway is a great track and an even better facility, but they definitely need to speed it up on clean ups.

We were not dodging rain or lightening strikes on Friday but we were trying to dodge the heat. Mother nature has been relentless with the heat and Friday night was no exception. 15 teams poured into Texas Raceway in Kennedale, America hoping to come away with the crown but only one team would do that. Here's how everything unfolded:

#1 Ken Thomas - 3.980 at 181 mph (Congratulations to team TMS/LenMar) I heard that Mt. Pleasant stayed lit up all week long while y'all were burning the candles at both ends trying to fit the Hell Hoss Mustang with the power plant out of the Bad Bird. Your hard work and perseverance paid off when you posted a 3.98 off the trailer first time in the car and then backed it up ALL NIGHT LONG! Great Job Guys & Gals!
    #2 Gaylen Smith - 3.995 at 189 mph
    #3 Gene Hector - 4.021 at 179 mph
#4 Doug Riesterer - 4.027 at 183 mph (Welcome back guys!)
    #5 Frankie Taylor - 4.193 at 155 mph
    #6 Steve Wiley - 4.199 at 173 mph
    #7 Michelle Wilson - 4.291 at 168 mph
    #8 David Baldwin - 4.344 at 163 mph
    #9 Jackie Deaver - 4.475 at 160 mph
    #10 Chuck Poindexter - 4.741 at 147 mph
    #11 Randy Rencher - 4.863 at 149 mph
    #12 Kevin Hargett - 5.638 at 111 mph
    #13 Rickey Cate - 6.136 at 76 mph
    #14 Chuck Nuytten - 8.171 at 112 mph
    #15 Steve Gorman - 9.659 at 73 mph

    First Round:

    Doug Riesterer (W) 4.024 at 182 mph (.015 RT)
Frankie Taylor (RU) 3.939 at 189 mph (.146 RT)

Frankie finally got the Corvette to go down the track under power but Doug gets a huge holeshot advantage and takes the win.

    Gene Hector (W) 4.124 at 159 mph (.033 RT)
Steve Wiley (RU) 4.759 at 111 mph (.033 RT)

Both guys had identical reaction times, but Steve Wiley encountered traction problems and had to abort the run while Gene cruises his "OLD" car down track and takes the win.

    Gaylen Smith (W) 3.993 at 190 mph (.083 RT)
Michelle Wilson (RU) 4.332 at 145 mph (.037 RT)

Michelle normally runs the 10.5 tires but she dusted off the big tires to come play tonite. Despite her starting line advantage, she couldn't hold off the hard charging HEMI HELL FISH Cuda driven by Gaylen Smith.

    Ken Thomas (W) 3.963 at 182 mph (.074 RT)
David Baldwin (RU) 4.332 at 162 mph (.072 RT)

Both cars left virtually the same but the newly acquired Hell Hoss stang driven by Ken Thomas was on a mission tonite and claims the victory with yet another stellar pass.

    Semi Finals:

    Ken Thomas (W) 3.991 at 181 mph (.056 RT)
Doug Riesterer (RU) 6.456 at 69 mph (-.058 RT) Red Lit

I'm not sure if Doug saw the red light and lifted or if he had traction problems but this LenMar sponsored entry -vs- LenMar sponsored entry was won by Ken Thomas in the "BAD HOSS" stang.

    Gene Hector (W) 4.004 at 180 mph (.017 RT)
    Gaylen Smith (RU) NT

As soon as Gaylen unclutched the Hell Fish, the "drive train" in the blower let go and he was dead in the water coasting to a stop mid track. Gene had a great reaction time and never looked back.

    Finals:

    Gene Hector (W) 3.981 at 179 mph (.021 RT)
Ken Thomas (RU) 3.949 at 183 mph (.084 RT)

Congratulations to Gene Hector and the Small Block Mafia crew for their victory (in the back-up car). Your win was long overdue.

Congratulations also to Ken & Susan Thomas and the Thomas Motorsports crew for your STELLAR outing after working day and night getting things ready in less than a week. I applaud you guys. If I'm not mistaken, this moved Ken back into the TOPMA points lead by 1 point over Gaylen. Game On.......LOL.

Your Agent has learned that Pro Extreme racer Ken Thomas is the new owner of the “Hell Hoss” Mustang, formerly campaigned by LenMar Motorsports teammate Grant McCrary in the Flowmaster Extreme 10.5 class.

Thomas had a hard meeting with the wall yesterday at Heartland Park Topeka in his first test pass for the Hardee’s Independence Drags III, so major repairs to his “Bad Bird” were in order, regardless.

Thomas was apparently in the market for a new ride, anyway, as your Agent was told he’d also looked into purchasing the 2007 Dodge Stratus that Jason Scruggs drove to the 2008 National Guard ADRL Pro Extreme world championship.

Whirlwind plans call for Thomas and crew to transplant their Roots-blown Hemi into their new ‘67 Stang this week in preparation for a TOPMA race next Friday night at Texas Raceway in preparation for the NATIONALGUARD.com U.S. Drags II, July 24-25, at Virginia Motorsports Park, near Richmond, VA.

After a small amount of sleep 13 drivers rolled into the concrete palace with winning on their mind. After two rounds of qualifying here's how everything unfolded: We started qualifying a little later than normal trying to beat the heat for the drivers (in 3 layer fire suits) and also for the dedicated fans sitting in reflective bleachers in 100+ degree weather but unfortunately Heath Harvey (who was the 2nd pair of cars down the track) expired a motor and the block/oil pan windowed above the engine diaper so we were shut down for a pretty lengthy clean-up BUT the track was in great shape after the track crew cleaned and prepped the right lane.

    #1 Gaylen Smith - 3.965 at 191 mph
    #2 Frankie Taylor - 3.982 at 191 mph
    #3 Ken Thomas - 4.003 at 185 mph
#4 Doug Riesterer - 4.093 at 176 mph (Welcome Back Doug)
    #5 Steve Wiley - 4.096 at 178 mph (Piloting Jimmy Hector's Corvette)
#6 Chuck Nuytten - 4.163 at 171 mph (Nice pass Chuck)
    #7 Gene Hector - 4.198 at 175 mph
    #8 David Baldwin - 4.350 at 163 mph
    #9 Jackie Deaver - 4.368 at 166 mph
    #10 Wes Johnston - 4.502 at 124 mph
    #11 Eric Clark - 4.521 at 156 mph
    #12 Chuck Poindexter - 4.781 at 147 mph
    #13 Heath Harvey - 5.408 at 89 mph

    First round:

    Doug Riesterer (W) 4.004 at 184 mph (.039 RT)
Steve Wiley (RU) 4.184 at 173 mph (.148)

Nice clean pass for Doug meanwhile Steve was in the other lane all over the track finally hitting a cone.

    Ken Thomas (W) 3.977 at 185 mph (.166 RT)
Chuck Nuytten (RU) 4.361 at 162 mph (.083 RT)

Chuck was going for the win but he just couldn't get around the Bad Bird.

Gene Hector (W) 4.073 at 179 mph (.062 RT) **Upset Win**
Frankie Taylor (RU) 4.091 at 186 mph (.108 RT)

Saw the pass from the return road and it looked like Frankie was moving around a little which ate up ET and Gene snuck by him for the upset win.

    Gaylen Smith (W) 3.997 at 191 mph (.115 RT)
David Baldwin (RU) 4.342 at 164 mph (.013 RT)

Same first round match up from the night before and David is still chopping the tree down but he couldn't get around the hard charging HEMI HELL FISH in the other lane.

    Semi-Finals:

    Ken Thomas (W) 3.973 at 185 mph (.064 RT)
Gene Hector (RU) 4.148 at 175 mph (.033 RT)

Despite the slight hole shot advantage, Gene wasn't able to defend his starting line lead against the LenMar Motorsports/Bad Bird driven by Ken Thomas. Ken's going to another final round.....which one of his teammates will be his competition?????

    Gaylen Smith (W) 9.730 at 47 mph (.006 RT)
    Doug Riesterer (RU) No Time

Doug was in the staging lanes and when he fired his car up there was a knocking noise so they wisely shut it off. Gaylen left the line with tires blazing white smoke which was great for us since nobody was in the other lane.

    Final Round:

    Ken Thomas (W) 3.981 at 185 mph (.027 RT)
Gaylen Smith (RU) 5.340 at 85 mph (.047 RT)

About 200 feet into the run, the throttle return cable spring broke and Gaylen lost the throttle so all he could do was watch Ken drive into the winner's circle. Don't know what the outcome would have been but I would have liked to see the race "balls to the wall" for both cars.

Congratulations to Ken & Susan Thomas and the entire LenMar/Bad Bird team for a well deserved win. After being plaqued with problems the night before, y'all really bounced back strong.

Congratulations to Gaylen and Team TBH for your runner-up finish as well. Lots of hard work paid off with a win and runner-up in one weekend.

Now, off to Topeka to play with the other boyz!

  • TXR Results - 6/26/09 -- Mrs. TBH, 13:14:59 06/30/09 Tue
Sorry for the delay but the paperwork I got on Friday night was not the correct qualifying order (it was from the rain-out) so I don't have exact times and who all was there. I've asked for the final qualifying order but I haven't received it yet. Here it comes with a lot of ???? marks:

    #1 Frankie Taylor - 3.885 at 194 mph
    #2 Gaylen Smith - 3.929 at 190 mph
    #3 Gene Hector - 4.07 ? at ??? mph
    #4 Ken Thomas - 4.130 at 181 mph
    #5 Perry Dunn Racing - 4.24 ? at ??? mph
    #6 Heath Harvey - 4.268 at 173 mph
    #7 David Baldwin - 4.35 ? at ??? mph
    #8 Eric Clark - 4.36 ? at ??? mph

    #9 Jim Brinkerhoff - ??? at ??? mph (Alternate)
    #10 Barry Wade - ??? at ??? mph (Alternate)

There were other drivers that didn't make the show but I'm not sure who they were other than Jackie Deaver, Chuck Nuytten, Chuck Poindexter, & Michelle Wilson

    First Round:

    Ken Thomas (W) 3.987 (.153 RT)
Jim Brinkerhoff (RU) 4.680 (.058 RT)

After not getting down the track any better than 2 weeks ago, Ken pulls a 3.98 out of his bag of tricks for the win. Jim stepped in for Perry Dunn Racing after they kicked the rods out during qualifying.

    Gaylen Smith (W) 4.175 at 169 mph (.073 RT)
David Baldwin (RU) 4.348 at ??? mph (.002 RT)

David did a bad job of red lighting but he knew he needed to do something if he was going to reel in the fish but instead, the hell fish snatched the bait and took the win.

    Frankie Taylor (W) 3.946 at ??? mph (.131 RT)
Eric Clark (RU) 4.608 at ??? mph (.013 RT)

Eric left first but the mad man came flying around him on his best pass of the night to claim the win.

    Gene Hector (W) 4.724 at ??? mph (.154 RT)
Barry Wade (RU) 16.965 at ??? mph (1.001 RT)

I didn't see this pass but Gene should be counting his lucky stars that Barry had problems because he left a bunch of ET and RT on the table.

    Semi Finals:

    Gaylen Smith (W) 4.224 at ??? mph (.025 RT)
Gene Hector (RU) 4.854 at ??? mph (.028 RT)

Both cars left virtually dead even but both cars encountered traction problems and Gaylen comes away with the win on an off-paced pass.

    Frankie Taylor (W) 4.381 at ??? mph (.093 RT)
Ken Thomas (RU) 6.954 at ??? mph (.044 RT)

Ken gets the light but it was all over after that. Frankie was moving around but was able to keep it in his lane and get the victory. This sets up Frankie and Gaylen in the finals.

    Finals:

    Gaylen Smith (W) 4.020 at ??? mph (.063 RT)
Frankie Taylor (RU) 3.982 at ??? mph (.116 RT)

This was a great race. Both cars were moving around but Gaylen did his job at the starting line was able to claim the win.

Congratulations to Gaylen Smith and Team TBH for their first victory at Kennedale in a long time. You would have thought this was Friday the 13th instead of the 26th with all the problems that most teams had trying to conquer the track and some of their own demons.

Congratulations to Frankie Taylor and Taylor Motorsports for their runner-up finish as well.

Now we all serviced the cars, got a little shut eye and headed east to the concrete palace where we did it all over again......

  • Frankie Taylor and Doug Riesterer 1/43 slot car drag cars. These are hand built cars that we run at my slot drag strip in Waco, Texas. The Riesterer car was built a couple of years ago and one of my racers wanted to know if I could build and paint a body to look like Frankie's car. You can go to this link to check out the 1/43 slot car dragracing. http://www.whitesideracecars.com/Slot%20Car%20Racing. These links are to view some of the photos of these cars. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t118/pjkicker/Frankie2.jpg and http://s158.photobucket.com/albums/t118/pjkicker/?action=view¤t=Frankie1.jpg -- SIDE, 23:09:57 06/25/09 Thu

I was wondering if anyone would like to join Gaylen in sponsoring the kids payout. If you would like to, I can be found Friday night, Texas Raceway, in concessions. I will also be at Dallas Raceway Saturday night.. -- Rhonda Scott - Race Director for Tx Outlaw 330's, 22:58:25 06/25/09 Thu

Just to let everyone know that the Qualifying Session that was made at the Rainout will still be there for all that was there, all of the cars that wasnt there at the Rainout will still get 2 Qualifying Attempts, all of the Pro Mods that were at the First Race will actually get 3 Attempts because you have already made 1...1st Qualifying at Crandall(Dallas Raceway) Saturday Night will be @ 7:30ish, might can talk them into pushing it up a little because of the heat but we will see when we get there.
