Well we only got one round of qualifying in Friday night before the lightening show (Boy what a lightening show it was too.) In case you missed it, here's how the guys did first round qualifying:

    #1 Frankie Taylor - 3.885 at 194 mph
    #2 Gaylen Smith - 3.929 at 190 mph
    #3 Ken Thomas - 4.130 at 181 mph
    #4 Gene Hector - 4.141 at 177 mph
    #5 David Baldwin - 4.338 at 163 mph
    #6 Jackie Deaver - 4.491 at 161 mph
    #7 Chuck Nuytten - 4.634 at 142 mph
    #8 Steve Gorman - 7.154 at 62 mph
    #9 Heath Harvey - 9.952 at 52 mph
    #10 Steve Wiley - NT

Not sure why Steve got NT but that's what my paperwork says. He must have left before the tree activated. I know he was driving Jimmy Hector's '63 Vette (for the first time).

Just to let the drivers know, we will be giving 10 points to those that showed up and attempted to qualify for this race.

  • Rescheduled Pro Mod Race -- Texas Raceway, 15:15:37 06/13/09 Sat
We want to clear up some things regarding to the rescheduled race from Friday night. The race was cancelled due to the lighting all around us. If you hung around you would have seen a great light show however lightning and timing electronics don't work together. A month ago we lost both of our scoreboards due to lightning and we were not even racing and nothing was hooked up. That is the challenge of drag racing and weather.

If you have a ticket from last night it is good for the value you paid on any night we race. So, it is good for the $15 or $20 value that you paid towards another Friday night race, June 26's rescheduled race or the next Pro Mod race this season you are able to attend.

I want to thank everyone that came out last night and want to thank all the Pro Mod drivers and teams for their support.

We also look forward to the TXR Points Shootout for the Top 8 finalist + the last Pro Mod race of the season Friday and Saturday, Novermber 6 & 7.

If you have any questions or concerns please call the office Monday - Friday at 817-483-0356 or metro 817-572-3580. Thank you, Cindi

  • HMP Results -- Mrs. TBH, 09:49:01 06/08/09 Mon
Five determined Pro Mod teams rolled into HMP on Saturday, June 6th with the same goal.....A TOPMA WIN! After two strange rounds of qualifying, here's what went down.

    #1 Frankie Taylor - 3.863 at 175 mph
    #2 Jackie Deaver - 4.319 at 169 mph
    #3 Gaylen Smith - 4.725 at 118 mph
    #4 Heath Harvey - 6.360 at 73 mph
    #5 Chris Smith - 7.190 at 62 mph

Jackie was the first Pro Mod to go and as soon as he unclutched it, he went A to B on a nice lap meanwhile Heath and Chris both had problems at the hit of the throttle first round qualifying. Chris was running the new "Smith Racing" '63 Corvette. (The car looked great guys) Chris was unable to make another qualifying attempt but was able to come back for 1st round. Gaylen and Frankie were up next and Frankie made a nice lap but the Hell Fish was moving around heading towards the wall and Gaylen wisely lifted.

    First Round:

    Chris Smith (W) 4.17
Jackie Deaver (RU) 4.26 at 167 mph

Jackie made a nice pass but Chris was able to overcome Jackie's holeshot advantage and take the win.

    Gaylen Smith (W) 4.18 at 138 mph
Heath Harvey (RU) 4.36 at 178 mph

    Holeshot advantage - Twisted Texan
    Win Light.....Hell Fish

    Frankie (W) 3.81 Bye Run

    Semi-Finals:

    Frankie Taylor (W)
Gaylen Smith (RU) Left before tree activated

As Gaylen was staging, he noticed something was wrong with the two-step switch and was unable to stage the car correctly which caused him to roll thru the lights giving the automatic win to Frankie. Frankie tried to make something of the pass but wisely lifted when the car started darting around in the middle of the race track.

    Chris Smith (W) Bye

I'm not sure what Chris ran on his bye-run into the finals but his car was improving with every lap.

    Finals:

    Frankie Taylor (W) 3.96
    Chris Smith (RU) 4.10

Congratulations to Frankie and Team Taylor on your victory at HMP and also to Chris Smith and the Smith Racing team for your runner-up finish with a new car combination.

This win tied Frankie for 1st place with Ken Thomas in the TOPMA points chase and Gaylen is only 3 points behind them. This is gonna be a great year for the fans as these drivers battle it out on the track for the bragging rights to be called 2009 TOPMA Champion. Will Ken be the only other driver other than Gaylen Smith with back to back wins or will somebody else have something to say about that?

We'll see what happens at Kennedale this Friday, 6/12/09 as the battle continues.........

For all of you non-haters who are interested in the results, this is for you. If you're not interested, DON'T READ. WOW, what a weekend. TOPMA was invited to come play with IHRA at Dallas Raceway in Crandall, TX and boy did we come to play. 17 teams rolled into the concrete palace looking to make it into the top 8 and here's what went down. After two rounds of qualifying on Saturday here's how the ladder ended up:

    #1 Frankie Taylor - 3.874 at 195 mph
    #2 Gaylen Smith - 3.898 at 187 mph
    #3 Ken Thomas - 3.946 at 189 mph
    #4 Michael Browning - 4.067 at 177 mph
    #5 Gene Hector - 4.095 at 157 mph
    #6 Heath Harvey - 4.102 at 179 mph
    #7 Rickey Cate - 4.189 at 173 mph
    #8 Steve Wiley - 4.323 at 175 mph
    #9 Grant McCrary - 4.328 at 180 mph
    #10 Clyde Scott - 4.331 at 177 mph
    #11 Jackie Deaver - 4.364 at 166 mph
    #12 Doug Mangrum - 4.431 at 156 mph
    #13 Wes Johnston - 4.469 at 146 mph
    #14 Eric Clarke - 4.550 at 164 mph
    #15 Chuck Nuytten - 4.604 at 147 mph
    #16 Michael Jones - 4.932 at 149 mph
    #17 Barry Wade - 5.032 at 142 mph

    First Round:

    Ken Thomas (W) 4.346 at 167 mph (.088 RT)
Heath Harvey (RU) 7.529 at 59 mph (.067 RT)

At the hit of the throttle, Heath's car went into tire smoke and Ken was in and out of the throttle all the way down the 1/8 mile but comes away with the win.

    Gaylen Smith (W) 3.934 at 188 mph (.114 RT)
Grant McCrary (RU) 5.271 at 110 mph (.032 RT)

Grant filled in for Rickey Cate who broke a crank during qualifying and was unable to make the call. Grant was going for the upset win but it was soon over after take off for him as he shook the tires and hopped down his lane meanwhile the boss was in his lane getting the job done.

    Frankie Taylor (W) 3.900 at 195 mph (.117 RT)
Jackie Deaver (RU) 11.978 at 62 mph (.764 RT)

Jackie filled in for Steve Wiley who dropped a valve and damaged the head and a couple of pistons during qualifying and was unable to make the call. I did not see this run as I was on the return road picking up Gaylen, but Frankie gets the win and I'm not sure what happened to Jackie.

    Michael Browning (W) 4.107 at 175 mph (.076 RT)
Gene Hector (RU) 4.088 at 182 mph (.118 RT)

Gene was caught napping at the line and Michael takes advantage of it. Gene was hard charging trying to catch Browning but it wasn't enough to get the win.

    Semi Finals:

    Gaylen Smith (W) 3.908 at 201.19 mph (.093 RT)
Ken Thomas (RU) Left Before Tree Activated

Ken had trouble with the clutch while he was staging and he left before the tree activated giving the win to Gaylen but I'm not sure he saw what was going on and must have thought he was way late leaving as he charged down his lane re-setting his personal best (and 1/8 mile Dallas Raceway) track speed record.

    Frankie Taylor (W) 3.970 at 191 mph (.071 RT)
Michael Browning (RU) 7.097 at 64 mph (.049 RT)

Not sure what happened to Browning but it must have been over shortly after the hit. Frankie was in and out of the throttle going for lane choice in the finals but he had to settle for the win (without lane choice).

    Finals:

    Gaylen Smith (W) 3.937 at 195 mph (.096 RT)
Frankie Taylor (RU) 4.076 at 163 mph (.106 RT)

Both cars left pretty much at the same time with Gaylen having a slight hole shot advantage. Frankie was hard charging on the first half of the 1/8 mile but then he started having problems staying stuck getting all kinds of sideways while Gaylen was consistent as he had been every round and cruises right by Frankie for the win.

Congratulations to Gaylen and the entire TEAM TBH for their back to back TOPMA (and Dallas Raceway) wins. Keep up the great work guys! I'm very proud of you (even though some people aren't)!!!

Congrats to Team Taylor for their runner-up finish as well. TOPMA was well represented at the Amalie Oil IHRA Nationals. Thanks to the other teams representing TOPMA as well. We had a kick-@$$ showing in the Outlaw Pro Mod category.

Myers and McCoy Combine for PN Duster Delivery

WASHINGTON, MO (May 19, 2009) – Andy McCoy Race Cars (AMRC) generated a quite a buzz in the drag racing community last year with the debut of its 1970 Plymouth Duster-bodied race car and is currently building one for veteran National Guard ADRL Pro Nitrous star Thomas “Tom Slick” Myers.

“Thomas is an excellent driver and this is a great opportunity for us to showcase our car so we are working hard to get it to him as soon as possible,” Andy McCoy (bottom, right) said. “He has a strong engine and drivetrain combination and I believe when they are joined together with our chassis he will see an immediate increase in performance. That’s why we have agreed to supply this car for him.”

Myers, from Granbury, Texas, and currently 12th in the Pro Nitrous standings, is slated to be piloting the new car by this summer and will be seeking a top-eight finish in order to secure a berth in the National Guard ADRL’s championship-deciding Battle for the Belts.

“I’m excited we’re going to have a car that is ours rather than somebody else’s old car,” Myers said. “Rebecca (wife and crew chief) and I think the joining of forces between Andy McCoy Race Cars and Tom Slick Motorsports is going to be a win-win situation and we are going to make an all-out assault in 2010 with that car.”

The AMRC Duster (above) made its debut last year at the hands of National Guard ADRL campaigner Dennis Radford and has been growing in popularity ever since. In addition to its availability in the U.S. through AMRC, the Duster body is also available in Europe through an exclusive partnership with Henrik Pedersen’s All-In Racecars.

“When I first saw that thing in Rockingham I thought it was one of the slickest pieces I’d ever seen,” Myers said. “We have great power from our Reher-Morrison motor and we expect to be super fast right out of the gate with that new chassis. I know our sponsors are excited as well because I have spoken to several folks at Safety-Kleen as well as David Spainhour at Midco Demolition Tools, Shorty Miller and Performance Mechanical and Monty Smith at NOS. They make it possible for me to race and I can’t thank them enough for their support.”

Specializing in the fabrication of high-performance Pro Mod and Top Sportsman drag racing components from chassis to competition-ready vehicles, Andy McCoy Race Cars is also home to a growing parts catalog. AMRC also is a National Guard ADRL contingency sponsor and provides a full support trailer (right) at each national event with the capability of making repairs and supplying parts. • Congrats to TBH and the whole Lenmar crew, glad to see the Bounty Hunter back in the winners circle. Nothing but positive things from here on, it takes some driving ability to get a race car down the track @ 200mph in 660 ft.,, I know it's been a long time coming, and their were some haters out their, and now it's time to give acknowledgement to a job well done.
