Watching Billy, it occured to me that while Billy didn't completely affect Angel, Angel definitely acted like Billy towards Darla. The sex/rape of Reprise definitely kept hanging around in my mind.

I agree. Whenever I see a post claiming that darla will abandon the baby, I keep thinking: Wait, this baby represents to Darla everything that happened to her in Epiphany. That night was one of humilation and pain for her. Also, vampires, in general aren't supposed to have babies, so it is inevitable that for the first few scenes she is going to feel distant from it.

When I saw Redefinition, I was hoping for a truly changed Darla, only to be disappointed that she was the same old, same old in Reprise. Maybe this time around, there will be a stronger more lasting change, as you have said. I hate to come away from this arc to find out that: Darla's bad. We should hate her. Let's reject her one more time and humiliate her further.

Epiphany brought Darla back to the place where she thought she had escaped, being seen as a prostitute, because that's essentially what she was to Angel in Reprise. Just there for the taking and abuse.
