Parable of the Lost Sheep

The parable of the lost sheep is such a parable that I thought of when I read this assignment. It is so simple that most readers over look its significance and application. This parable is only found in account of Matthew and Luke and it is significant because both of them wrote specifically to a certain group of people, however, the universality of this parable is vital because both members of the church and non members can reality to it one way or the other. The lost sheep has been found!
In Luke chapter15, the �gPublicans and sinners�h came to hear Jesus just on the appropriate moment when Pharisees perhaps following Jesus around and watching him closely. The Parable couldn�ft have been told had not the paradise murmured about Jesus association with the sinners. They failed to comprehend the scriptures, that the messiah didn�ft come into this world to save righteous people, because �ga sick man needs a doctor�h and not those who are well. Their complain motivated Jesus to speak to the audience using Parables perhaps to further complicate their understanding on spiritual and temporal matters. He related this parable and the prodigal son, but I prefer the lost sheep.
Christ knew the characteristics of sheaves. They are innocent, but also fragile, and they can easily get lost in the forest, or even in the wide-open. For that reason, most shepherds are out in the field directing them. But they are not really shut off, they have the ability to comprehend their master�fs voice and follow him. In this parable, there were 100 sheaves and of them went astray. The interesting aspect of that parable can be found in verses 4 and 6. Christ first imposed the Pharisees a parable, asking them if one of the sheaves went astray, would they look for it. Jesus in this occasion made them think for themselves before proceeding on to narrate his part. In verse 6, Christ proclaimed that the master of that missing sheep went about and searched until he retrieve the lost one, where upon he called for celebration, but he use the words, �grejoice with me�h which I believe a statement that could be interpret to mean that everyone one is free to rejoice with him. The friends and neighbors in this parable can be attributed to the Pharisees. I am related to this as a young man living in the farm, but so much so as a new convert to the gospel. I was baptized in 1997 as the only member in my family. As a convert I have seen how it is to be a new member of flock, because people thought that I was out of my mind. The time when I was baptized was the moment I created more enemies in my family and also my neighborhood, but this parable taught me something and that is, the Lord have mercy on every body and he is here for sinners. Joseph Smith�fs translation clarifies the mission of Christ. �g 5 5 For behold, and lo, he shall come, as it is written in the book of the prophets, to take away the sins of the world, and to bring salvation unto the heathen nations, to gather together those who are lost, who are of the sheepfold of Israel;
