Contrails ARE left by piston engine aircraft, as is evident from much of the wartime newsreel footage. Any aircraft (piston, turboprop or jet) will leave a contrail under the right conditions, i.e. the relative humidity is high.

Even stealth aircraft such as the B-2 or F-117 are restricted to night flying at low level as the contrails that they leave are visible for a long way on a moonlit night. If high altitude flight is called for these aircraft use a contrail suppresion system which involves injecting a chemical cocktail into the engine exhaust - this is not very environmentally friendly as some of the chemicals are CFC's.

If you are going to criticise someone for their lack of knowledge of history, you should be sure that you are correct on your historical facts.
