i know him!!, not only that, our times at Machrihanish overlapped. He used to go lamping with his Spaniel near the transmitter site. - that right Bud? And you were part of the mob that were laying the war comms network.
Many hours were spent on the 1kw Hf set. One monitoring the RX at 27MHz and the other operating the TX synth. The RX guy would monitor the locals on CB, pass the freq to the TX guy, who would dial in and hit them with a 1KHz tone at 1KW. These civvies were going ape and trying to dodge us. we'd find them, and hit them again. They were talking about DFing us, but what could they do?

There was also an ROC Bunker on camp, deep in the bondu near the rifle range. They held monthly meets in campbeltown and carried out radation moitoring excercises in the Bunker.
We (both of us) flew with USMC jolly green giants and MAC C141 on seal drops.
