Subject: Identities, Again

When you value one identity over another (ie. an enlightened person versus an unenlightened one, a peacemaker versus a war monger, a kind person versus a cruel one, etc.), some identities may posssess more attraction to you than others... but one thing remains the same.

You believe that you are your identities... whether they be desirable or undesirable ones.

Valuing different identities differently... still keeps you trapped in your identities.

Real-izing (or the act of making real) that you are not your identities... frees you from them.

[> Friend and Foe -- BonsaiBiker, 18:04:26 10/01/01 Mon

What would happen if you exchanged the labels of "friend" and "foe" that are currently being placed on the United States and Afghanistan?

Would your experience of both identities change as a result?

Better yet, what if you affixed the same label of "neither friend or foe" on both identities? Would you be just as apt to drape yourself in a flag?

The antidote to someone who is willing to die for a cause... is being willing to die for no cause.

[> Giving You The Power -- BonsaiBiker, 18:12:19 10/01/01 Mon

As long as I cling to life and push away death, I give you the power to control me through fear.

The greatest honor that I can give you... is to treat you as if you are not your or my images of you.

[> The Chicken Or The Egg -- BonsaiBiker, 18:31:23 10/01/01 Mon

For me to desire to be of help to your enlightenment, I must first unequivocably believe that you are unenlightened.

For me to desire to help the world achieve global peace, I must first unequivocably believe that it is in turmoil.

The chicken or the egg?

[> [> Seeing Is Believing Is Seeing -- BonsaiBiker, 18:35:39 10/01/01 Mon

Do I believe that you are unenlightened because of the evidence I see, or do I see the evidence because I believe that you are unenlightened?

And do I believe that the world is in turmoil because of the evidence I see, or do I see the evidence because I believe that the world is in turmoil?

What would happen if a critical mass of us unequivocably believed that the world was in peace?

Unchartered waters for sure.
