Well, I guess I need to throw my 2 cents into this, as I seem to have created quite the stir about the local "scene" in Maryville, and more specifically, the band Prank Monkey. First, I did write the little comment, which is obviously an opinion, and more importantly one to be taken in jest. I would have thought that this music page was would be easily seen as humor, and taken as such. It would appear as though I am wrong. As for the arguments, yes, it was/is a juvenile post, but that doesn't change the opinion. I do happen to know a member of the band, and in my discussions with him concerning punk rock (which they claim to be) it appears that they don't really fit the mold of punk rock. Granted, that isn't the point of punk rock, to fit to a scene, but when you sound exactly like bands such as blink-182, etc... it does nothing to lend credibility to being punk. Punk started as a movement against something, and bands like Black Flag, The Clash, Minor Threat etc... all created music that meant something, and had more substantial lyrics than most of today's "punk." Essentially, what I am getting at is that my view on music is not "negative" in the sense that I hate all music, but I don't have much tolerance of certain types of music, much the same way I imagine that whomever it is writing these posts dislikes boy bands, or Garth Brooks, etc...I listen to what I like, and critique what I don't. This is what people do. As for the other, more personal attacks, how pointless. What is the obsession with the knowledge of who we are, and the concern over ages, and time spent in school? This is the internet, a device that allows the exchange of ideas and opinions, most of which is done without the knowledge of who the person on the other end is. I am curious as to why there is such an emphasis on the fact that we are "incognito" (which is obviously not the case), just state your opinion, and we will state ours. Very easy concept. Oh, and please, spare me the
productive citizen crap. Impressive that you have your degrees, but if you really believe that those are the only jobs/interests that produce productive citizens, the time it took you to earn those degrees was obviously not enough to really learn something. By that logic, my working to obtain a political science degree is usless, and I should just quit that, and become a business major. Since money is all that matters right? Yes, thank you, I now see the light, and will give up trying to better myself as a person through education, and just pursue money for the rest of my life, as that is obviously the most fulfilling path. And if anyone gets in the way, well that's their problem not mine. Have a nice day. (Look at that, I even said something positive, impressive for someone known as Hatey McHatesalot. What the hell was that about by the way? Hatey McHatesalot? Weak.)
