I guess I'm an unfortunate victim of the "play by the rules of the game" mentality. I figure I can do more good by participating in a party that is least-worst. True, the youth outreach of the party is among the most liberal, with formal platform positions against the death penalty and more hardened positions protecting human rights. The progressive organization sounds exactly like what I would like to see. We exist in small pockets, with groups defending human rights and civil liberties and others endorsing parties formally. Ideally, we all have the same goals and we should come together to work for those goals in the political process and elsewhere. Like I said before, it is the leftist causes that I am passionate about, not the party, and I'd gladly come on board any progressive organization. I also intend to steer our young democrats organization to be of any assitance to other progressive groups, carrying their messages to our democrats--because, unfortunately, that is as left as we have, for now.
