Matt,

Although at times I feel like I am lost in a sea of Republicans (or worse) here at NWMSU, I think there are more of "us" than we think. No doubt they are cowed into silence by the overwhelmingly conservative leaning of the general student population.
While I think the Democratic Party (in terms of leadership) is seriously misguided and heading in an unsavory direction, I also think the youth element in the party has great potential (from what I have seen, most of the progressive thinking comes from "the kids"). While I personally wouldn't join the Democrats, as my political stance is much further to the left than what they represent, I would love to see a movement on this campus that supports the Young Democrats as well as other left/liberal students and groups. I've often thought about getting together an organization for politically progressive students (be they Democrats, Greens, Socialists, etc.) that can be a bridge for all groups (as few and far-between as they might be).
Something like that might be good for students who don't want to join a formal party, for whatever reason, yet still want to be politically active. Plus it would just be a way for like minds to get together. If I can find the time and support this Fall I might try to get something like that together.
