Two points (kind of like three):
I always hear the inane Canada argument. "Them Canadians come here to get new hearts and kidneys, because their socialist doctors don't know how." It's hokey anecodotal evidence that is easily disproven. (In reality, Canadians are healthier and live longer.)

I have been trying out a new way of countering the "unamerican argument." When someone tells me that univeral healthcare is "unamerican," I counter that the current system is "immoral." If I know the person to be religious, then I can bring out the big gun and call it "unchristian". It's fun because it confuses and dumbfounds. "Well I love my country, but I fear God. Damn, I don't want to decide between the U.S.ofA. and our Lord Jesus Christ."

Oh, and my other point ... KU is offering a grad class this summer titled "Rich Media, Poor Democracy". I really enjoyed McChesney's ( http://www.robertmcchesney.com ) book by the same name, but I can never find anyone to discuss it with. Plus we'll get to delve into "Manufacturing Consent". The only thing that would make me more excited would be if the class were titled "Oligopolies: A Critique of Why They Eat Shit".
