Originality doesn't grow on trees. As a writer, I have to *learn* how to write before I can develop my own style of writing. Therefore, I will read and be influenced by other writers before I begin to have an influence myself. The same must be true of music as well. Can't a band be forgiven for learning how to make music? At the front page of this site, it mentions the "musical journey". To go forward you first have to learn what's gone before.
