Guys...you're living in a dream world. President Baker doesn't give a rip about sports let alone sponsporing the construction of a new arena for athletics. Especially in light of the fact that the Stangs are .500 in virtually every sport.

The best evidence of this is the simple fact that since taking over as President at Cal Poly, the overall winning percentage for every sport is .500. Baker does not care and that is why alumni such as John Madden don't provide support. Madden has been quoted as saying he will not provide funding because he knows full well the university is not behind athletics.

Since Baker walked through the doors of the President's Office in 1979, his sole mission has been to enhance the academic reputation of Cal Poly. He's accomplished this and as the data shows, Cal Poly is the most selective school in the Big West as well as boasting the highest aggregate SAT and GPAs for its students. This is a much more impressive legacy than being conference champion. For this I applaud him.

I'm sure Baker would consider a new arena if people were knocking down the doors for tickets and the team was making a statement on the national scene but neither is happening (e.g. losing to last place Northridge and Sac State in basketball). Moreover, with looming state budget cuts, considering a new field house is the last thing on his mind.

Poly students should focus on getting their degrees and the coaches should focus on winning and forget about sub-par basketball and football facilites. If the wins come, interest will grow and the administration will step-up.
