Once left for dead at 1-4 in the SEC, Vanderbilt rallied this past week behind Matt Freije's stellar performances and put itself back into the postseason picture.

Power Rankings* (Last Week)

1. Florida (won at LSU 70-53, beat Arkansas 77-66)
Florida-Kentucky…Rupp Arena…Tuesday night…ESPN…’nuff said
2. Kentucky (won at South Carolina 87-69)
See above
3. Georgia (lost at Vandy 94-91, beat Miss.St. 67-63)
Have proved they can win without much from Hayes
4. Mississippi St. (won at Ole Miss 58-57, lost at Georgia 67-63)
A split is really all that should’ve been expected
5. Alabama (beat LSU 75-66)
A victory of any sort was much-needed
6. Tennessee (beat S.Carolina 60-56, won at Auburn 60-57)
All the sudden a team nobody wants to play
7. Auburn (lost to Tennessee 60-57)
Should win games like this if they want to make surprise trip to NCAAs
8. Vanderbilt (beat Georgia 94-91, beat Ole Miss 76-68)
Who said this team was dead?
9. Ole Miss (lost to Miss. St. 58-57, lost at Vandy 76-68)
Who said this team was March material?
10. LSU (lost to Florida 70-53, lost at Alabama 75-66)
Arizona win seems like a distant memory now
11. Arkansas (lost at Florida 77-66)
A very respectable showing in Gainesville elevates them out of the cellar
12. South Carolina (lost at Tennessee 60-56, lost to Kentucky 87-69)
Six straight losses puts them into the cellar

* Power rankings include games through Feb. 2nd

Team of the Week: Vanderbilt Commodores
It’s beginning to look like we’re seeing the benefits of that stiff non-conference schedule the ‘Dores put themselves through. You beat teams like Georgia and Ole Miss with good ol’ fashioned toughness, and that’s exactly what Vandy did last week. You also beat them by scoring more points than either one of them has given up all year. Sure they still have to prove themselves on the road (beginning Wednesday in Starkville), but a solid RPI makes an NCAA bid not as far-fetched as it might seem.

Player of the Week: Matt Freije, Vanderbilt
It might seem like a Commodore love fest, but name a player in the conference who played better than Freije did last week. He was simply dominating in a win against Georgia, scoring 31 points on 11-of-15 shooting, including 5-of-8 from behind the arc. He also added nine rebounds for good measure. Then, he went out and scored 20 against the always-tough Ole Miss defense and shocked everyone with a career-high five steals as his ‘Dores crawled their way back into postseason contention. Nice week.

Go 'Dores
