Subject: 5000+ points - and a quick way to get more!

Latest result:
369,807 drachmas
8,018 population
23 estates
3 sanctuaries
Total = 5,070 points

After finishing with this I let the game continue to run and played arround with plundering the allies. Follow this for a QUICK WAY TO GET LOTS MORE POINTS:

1) Plundering is successful with just one company of horsemen or a single tireme (for Olympia). I was even successful with a company of just 4 horsemen. The companies come back at half strength (4 horsemen for a full company, 2 horsemen for the 4 sent).

2) Each ally can be plundered multiple times simultaneously. With the game paused, just keep going to the plunder screen and sending one company (or tireme) at a time. Some allies have a limit on the number of simultaneous plunders for drachmas. For Taras it is 3, but it seems to be higher for the others.

3) Plundering takes 6 months before the horsemen or tiremes are back in the city and the drachma are banked. The returning horsemen and tiremes can then be sent out again. The tiremes come back badly damaged and so will need to be repaired before reuse, but the horsemen can be dispatched again immediately (either as 4 horsemen companies as they are marching, or as full 8 horsemen companies once they have marched home and reconsolidated).

4) The allies get mad with repeated plundering, but the worst thing that happens is that they stop trading. And even this does not happen until a year and a half after the first plundering mission is dispatched. In any case, the drachmas from plundering (4,000 each time from Taras, 3,200 from the others) far outweigh the proceeds from trading. Note also that Sparta does not stop trading at all, no matter how much you plunder the allies.

5) I think you can see how this would work. As an example assume 16 estates (8 full companies of horsemen) and 4 tiremes. In December 2489 send out all 8 companies and the 4 tiremes. In June 2490 they will return with 12 lots of drachma (4,000 or 3,200 each). The tiremes will probably need repairing so let's ignore them. The horsemen will return as 8 companies of 4 horsemen each. Immediately send them back out on plundering missions. In Decemebr 2400 they will return as 2 horsemen companies with 8 additional lots of drachma.

5) Losing all these horsemen and their horses and weapons may cause an estate or two to devolve at the end. But losing 15 points for an estate is more than offset by the additional drachma. It also seems that this devolution is not a major problem, the game seems to spread the horse and armor loses evenly across the estates which only devolve if horses or armor goes to 0.

My result above included just 8 plundering runs in the last year. I intend to rerun the last two years and believe I can get 20+ plunders for an additional 50,000+ drachmas.

That's the nice thing about this. You only have to replay the last year (or two if you wish). I know you have all played long and hard on this map and have pretty much finished. But replaying the last year would only take an hour or so and the additional points are substantial.

Sorry if this comes too late for you, but if not how about one final push for TEAM NIXON.

Regards,
Mike
