My apologies first and foremost if it seems like repeats below:

Free roads, deletes and parks:
This is a feature allowed in contest maps. Take a look here. Scroll down to Zeus Game Features.

Minimize mistakes:
mistakes take drachmas when you need to delete and rebuild.

Tax:
At the beginning of the game, if you have a low population and you need extra workforce, set wages at very high, and at the same time tax at Very high (or even downright outrageous). This actually helped keep me out of debt with all the initial building i had to do.

Build Hades' Sanctuary first, so that you may rake in as much drachmas early in the game. I finished his sanc by yr 2496 and had 3 successful prayers. Be sure (and this is very important) to position tax offices and mints correctly so that he may pass and bless them.

As you progress into the game, watch out for unemployments and city sentiments. Adjust tax and wage accordingly (at normal you can get away with setting tax at very high). Set wages at low once your city is fully populated (low wages may cause immigration to halt).

Olive oil:
Olive oil may not seem like a good deal for trade (at 60 dr) but every dr counts. sell them or gift them in return for dr. Instead of requesting olives from Taras, try requesting drachmas. Build Anthena's sanctuary for olives and oil. Best place for this is north-east of the map (near the marble quarry). Rotate the sanctuary to face west (your cursor indicates the sanctuary itself with the alter furthest away). Make sure again that you keep a few olive press and carding shed near her sanctuary so that your city may have an abundance of oil and fleece.

Take a look at the list of what i did in my last map here.
I also found out that it is possible to obtain a good score by concentrating on townhouses alone. So by all means, if you do not wish to build elite housing (thus avoiding the hassle of setting up armories and horse ranches), concentrate on townhouses.

To get a good number of sculpture out for Taras, have at least 2 foundries for each sculpture studio. When you can't make request for dr from Sparta and Calydon, request for Sculpture and sell them to Taras.

Below describes to layout of my city:

- 2 housing 'loops' (am using loops here because they aren't exactly blocks) on the northern plateau and another south-west.
-agriculture and industrial (winery, olive press) buildings are concentrated on the meadows.
-Athena and Aphrodites' Sanctuary North-east (near the quarry).
-Hades' Sanctuary on the central plain with (elite houses/townhouses). Palace is situated close by.
-foundries built near entry point with 6 sculpture studios along the coast line leading into the central plain (right below the northern plateau).

I know it is frustrating and it is not easy to imagine a city based on notes above, much less trying to get drachmas up. Good luck and I hope this helps.

PS. Good luck on your SATs.
