Dear Deloras, My name is Beth Ridens and I am 17 years old. I was burned on 2/1/03. The reason why I was burned was because me and my little brother had soome friends over late that night and we were all out side playing basketball and we got cold so me and my brother built a small fire over in the side yard to keep us warm. To me the fire didn't look big enought to do anything so I went and got the can of gasoline and started to pour it on the fire when the flames sucked up into the gas can and it blew the back of the can out on me. I was rushed to the hospital where later my family was told I would have to go to Birmgham to recieve medical treatment because my burns were mostly secong and third degree. I spent 21/2 months in UAB where I recieved the best medical treatment just for me. I suffered with few second-degree burns but mostly third-degree, I had third-degree burns on my left hand, right leg, my chest, my shoulder, and my face. I had to have skin graphs on all this areas. Now I am at home with my family and back in school with all my friends. I still have 2 years worht of surgery on my face I have to go through. But in the long run I know that God put me here fora reason and I now know what that reason is to help others that are also burn survivers. My friend here at school was burned last week, he has second-degree burns on his arm. When I found put I wrote him a letter telling him that if he ever needed anyone to talk to that he could always come and talk to me because I knkow what he is going through. I also told him about the burn support meetings that I go to every month and I told him that if he ever wanted to go that all he had to do was call me and that I would be glad to take him to the next meeting with me.

Beth Ridens of Gadsden AL,
Burned 2/1/03
Surviver: yes

P.S if you have any ideas that would help me reach out to other peolpe that are survivers please e-mail me at my address.
Beth Ridens
