Subject: New Years Resolution

A New Years resolution worth keeping is a resolution of getting to know Christ
"For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.”
(1 Corinthians 2:2, NIV)
If the Apostle Paul ever made a New Year’s resolution, I suspect it was similar to the one made here where he resolved to know nothing but Christ and him crucified. Paul’s message was radically simple. Salvation was in Christ alone. That means it’s not Christ plus your good behavior, the years you taught a Bible study, the amount of your tithe, the church you attend, the number of verses you memorize, your title in the church, the wisdom you learned from the latest Christian seminar or a desert fast (or even a dessert fast!).It’s not Christ plus a good driving record or well-behaved children, your new shined shoes or having the right job or the right spouse, a college education or you learning the latest technology.
It’s simply Christ. Christ plus nothing. This is still the message in this new millennium, and it’s a message that is as right throughout 2005 as it will be in 2999. May your New Year’s resolution be nothing but Christ and him crucified.
Point to ponder: Your salvation and adoption into God’s family come through Christ alone. You cannot earn your way into God’s grace, it is a gift.
Today’s verse: “For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.” (1 Corinthians 2:2, NIV)
What will you do about it: Is there some thing or some status you believe you need to attain to be fully accepted by God? Does that notion hold up when measured against this scripture?
Pray that this year you will know nothing but Christ and him crucified.
