you guys get way too bent out of shape. what i say is mostly in good fun to start. then when i am attacked, i post facts to prove my point with a lil ball busting and you guys get all "he's a troll" on me when you don't have any facts to back up your points...all in all, i don't have a problem with marist. i think it is an excellent school with an excellent bball program (both wbb and mbb). both programs have always seemed to do things the right way by recruiting good student-athletes, etc. i also think highly of the marist fans. they are loyal and for the most part intelligent (had to get one jab in). for the most part i only post messages when i see posts that are completely untrue. the posts saying "the maac wants siena to win" are funny to me because the maac could give two sh*ts about siena. for one, siena, like marist, is not a founding member of the maac, so their clout with the maac higher-ups is not what you think it is. second, the maac wants the best team to win the championship (unless the situation explained later occurs). if that is marist, it is marist. if it is siena, it is siena. they want the best team in the ncaa's because it is the way they can make more $$$ (which is the only thing the maac cares about, trust me). when the tourney is in albany, is ensor hoping siena sticks around to monday? of course. does that make ensor a siena fan? absolutely not. he doesn't want siena in the ncaa's unless they are the best team. he is only thinking about the $$$ he gets if their fans keep coming back. i am sure he feels the same way about fairfield when the tourney was at ahy. believe me, he was hoping for a niagara win monday night. why is that you ask? the reason is because not much separates nu and sc in terms of talent. both could win a ncaa first round game. by nu losing, their chance of an at large bid is 0%. if siena lost, their rpi would have gone from 23 to 28 or so giving them a slim to decent chance of getting in as an at large. my opinion is that they would not have rec'd one, but in the eyes of the maac, it would be worth the risk because of the relatively close talent level of nu and sc. if the maac got two teams in the ncaa's, the profile of the league skyrockets from a one-bid league to a league that received one of the at larges that was reserved for a "big boy". plus the maac would double their take from the ncaa for the year, which i've heard is in the 6 figures per ncaa game played.

ok...go ahead and bash me if you want...i can take it...lol.

p.s. the times union is not the only publication picking siena to "pull a davidson" and advance deep into tourney.

Aye,

What is the point of this rambling mess?

I think everyone here on this board is hoping Siena has a good run in the NCAAs this year.

How about a corporate attorney with lots of time on his hands? lol

Upstate:
There is NO way the NCAA would consider giving the MAAC an at large. The league has not made enough headway on the national level. Yes NU & SC had very good seasons but not great seasons.
If both teams had like 25 wins and the rest of the league didn't stink so bad then maybe. But that was not the case this year.

in fact, the maac has rec'd an at large before and this is the highest ranking it has ever been. obviously, the maac's bottom feeders have hurt siena, but their rpi is currently 19 and have one of the best 7 out of conference strength of schedules. it would not be out of the question this year if siena's rpi was 25 to receive an at large given that they smoked a top 25 team in last years ncaa tournament and the facts posted above. while i said myself i don't think they would have rec'd one, it is not out of the question.

when you look at the projected seeds on cnnsi, espn, sportsline - you see siena projected pretty consistently as a 10 seed. the last few at larges are usually 11 and 12's. so that means that at least according to these websites, siena is rated higher than a couple of the lowest seeded at-larges. that shows they would have been in the discussion for an at-large because their rpi would only be 7 or 8 points lower than it is currently. now, if siena gets a 12 or 13 seed this year, i will completely agree with you that they had no shot at an at-large. if they are a 9, 10 or even an 11, they would have rec'd a lot of consideration and i'd lean towards them receiving one if they had lost to nu on monday.

Not only has the MAAC gotten an at large in the past "Manhattan" but we made them look good by beating #4 Oklahoma
