in fact, the maac has rec'd an at large before and this is the highest ranking it has ever been. obviously, the maac's bottom feeders have hurt siena, but their rpi is currently 19 and have one of the best 7 out of conference strength of schedules. it would not be out of the question this year if siena's rpi was 25 to receive an at large given that they smoked a top 25 team in last years ncaa tournament and the facts posted above. while i said myself i don't think they would have rec'd one, it is not out of the question.
when you look at the projected seeds on cnnsi, espn, sportsline - you see siena projected pretty consistently as a 10 seed. the last few at larges are usually 11 and 12's. so that means that at least according to these websites, siena is rated higher than a couple of the lowest seeded at-larges. that shows they would have been in the discussion for an at-large because their rpi would only be 7 or 8 points lower than it is currently. now, if siena gets a 12 or 13 seed this year, i will completely agree with you that they had no shot at an at-large. if they are a 9, 10 or even an 11, they would have rec'd a lot of consideration and i'd lean towards them receiving one if they had lost to nu on monday.
