Don't know if anyone caught this on the NYT respected QUAD blog about the coaching carousel

http://thequad.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/03/18/how-fast-is-the-coaching-carousel-spinning/

James Madison Coach Matt Brady, who hasn’t been fired, but did leave a job at Marist after only four years, provided a window into why a coach might leave voluntarily, beyond just a big payday.

“A statement was made to me between my third and fourth year — the way things were handled with me and my staff — it made it apparent to me that I better be cognizant of my career,” Brady said, without providing specifics. “To me, I got slapped in the face.”

He got slapped in the face? I thought he signed an extension before his fourth year. That was a slap in the face??? I guess he considered whatever increase they offered was too little, so why did he sign it, then make a comment about "unfinished business." Someone gotta 'splain that one to me.

I don't doubt that Marist conveyed a message between seasons 3 or 4 to Brady. The message was something along the lines of WIN A MAAC TTTLE. Dave Magarity didn't bolt Marist, he was doing an ok job...Marist made the change because the administration wanted to improve and get better...everything Brady accomplished at Marist was "been there done that". There's nothing wrong with Marist suggesting win sooner than later or we may look elsewhere...it's not like he got that message after season one. He had the most talented teams in Marist history handed to him for two years and bowed out in the semi's...Magarity accomplished that feat many times.

This NYTimes article makes it sound again that Brady took a floundering 6-22 program that was consistently a bottom feeder and turned them into an 11-17, 19-10, 25-9 team. We all know this Marist program for the last twenty years has performed following a pretty stready cycle...terrible year, better rebuilding year, two or three good to very good years complete with semifinal flame-out and than repeat. Brady just happened to take over right after the isolated terrible year.

Plus he's still resonsible for the decline of this years team WITHOUT considering the recruit defections...where are Brady's four year players??? Alot of his four year recruits should have been on this past team...Vucajnik? Gerald Carter? Right-D-II...LB? Goodwin, Bauer...big time dissapointments...He was like one for three recruiting years at Marist with Gavin being his only four year get.

I realize most of you guys hate Brady's guts, however he did win a MAAC championship outright, which I don't think had ever been done before. None of us know what was discussed between Brady and the college. I do know that JJ and WW were told by Murray after their soph season that major renovations would be done at McCann including the locker room. They were told the Locker room would be redone by that fall. That was never done while they were in school. Who knows what the administration told Brady. I'm not trying to defend Brady, but there are usually 2 sides to every story and we don't know either side.

Here you guys go again ... trying to beat up a good man.

Brady left for a much-better situation all around, not only facilities, level of play, fan support ... but, support of administration.

Brady's comments about what he was told between his third and fourth seasons ... a "slap in the face," he called it ... shows the ineptitude of the Marist athletic administration.

Brady was also "promised" some changes at Marist that never took place and, probably, never will.

And, yes, Brady did deliver an outright MAAC regular-season title for the school, something never done before.

You guys can, and will, continue to bash a guy who is both a good coach and was a terrific representative of our school.

Your only problem with him is that he left.

Hope you don't treat your current coach the same way when he lefs after he gets your program moving in the right direction again.

If it is "our school" why is he "your current coach"?

Me thinks walt smith is a little confused?

Outright regular season titles don't mean much. Conference Championships and NCAA births do. Brady was a solid in game strategy coach (struggled making adjustments at times) but good enough usually. That's how he was able to take the former coaches most talented recruiting class to a regular season title.

I for one am elated he's gone fora different reason. The way to build a winner at the mid major level is to recruit good solid four year players with a four year star here or there. His 4-year recruit record at Marist was abysmal...that cannot be argued and it's set this program back. I like what I see from Martin's first full recruiting class more than any combination of Brady's recruits during his tenure here.

It's sad but the only non-transfer, non-Magarity player that's made an impact for Marist since the start of the Brady days was Gavin last year...that's it.

"Hope you don't treat your current coach the same way when he lefs (sic) after he gets your program moving in the right direction again."

I'm sure that when Martin leaves, he will have brought Marist to a much better position than Brady left him with. Sure Brady had a good year, but, as has been said, he had some great players, who could have excelled under any MAAC coach-Brady just happened to be in that position.

And while Brian Giorgis looks like he enjoys being at Marist, every time I saw Brady on campus, he was scowling. Not much positivity coming from this guy, and I think that negatively affected the atmosphere around him.

Stir up the pot a little, and the morons come out to play.

what was the reason Brady left. That someone at Marist hurt his feelings like he said in the Times Blog, or was it the $$ like you said, over, and over, and over, and over, again?

Brady makes triple the salary he did at Marist.
His team plays in an arena, instead of a high school gym.
He has the support of administration, rather than the non-support he got at Marist.
He has much more money for recruiting purposes.
He gets to compete in a higher league.

And you idiots still can't figure out why he left.

Boo, hoo ... Matt Brady left our little piss-poor program.
So, he must be an idiot.

Want to see the real idiots?
Take a look in the mirror.

hey, huh? ...
Wow, are you a one-trick pony.
Please come back to the real world when you have something to offer.
But, the next time for that will be the first.

You are just pissed that Brady left your piss-poor program for triple his salary, better resources, better facilities, and ...
Best of all: Better fans, if the morons on this troll-board are indicative.
Imagine Brady, for instance, appearing at a fan gathering and encountering just a full-fledged moron the likes of "huh?"
No wonder he couldn't get out of Po-town fast enough.
