maybe I'm biased because I was there at that time but I go with Smits. I remember how much of a force he was and how he dominated games. I also remember how his success started to attract regional(NY Times, etc) then National attention, and clearly remember how big it was when Sports Illustrated came to campus one day to take pictures of him. Jordan, Viani, and Fitz are all in a very special class and played at a level much higher than the norm, but I think Smits' success was far and away on a level even higher than the other three. For what its worth, if you go with a worst player question, my answer would be Rudy Bougarel.
