when picking the best individual basketball player. The Marist Women don't get to the sweet 16 without Kresge at the point shredding the MTSU press. So then maybe she is the best player in Marist history. Ronald Moore was arguably the best player over a weekend when his team achieved its greatest accomplishment, maybe ever. Is he the best basketball player in Siena history?

Smits was planning on racing motorcycles in Holland before he was recruited to Marist. 4 years later he is the number 2 draft pick in the NBA. Who else in Marist basketball history has done that?

obviously no one player can carry a team. while kresge had a good career and had a great game vs. mtsu, she obviously lacks the stats to be in the conversation. in my opinion, fitz is the best wbb player i've ever seen in the maac. without her, i don't think kresge ever gets the chance to play against mtsu. without fitz, marist is an above average maac team. with her, they are a powerhouse with the ability to play against "up" competition. not to take anything away from the other team members but fitz opens so much for them because of the defensive focus she commands that makes those around her look better.

as for ronald moore, he is a huge part of the siena team's success, but will never be considered an all-time great at the school. hasbrouck has cemented his place as #3 behind bennerman and brown and just ahead of faison not because of his point totals alone. he had tremendous success as a team as well. i also think he had the best supporting cast in siena history, so to consider him for the #1 or #2 is tough. i honestly think that siena would be maac champs if they put hasbrouck at the point and slid c.jackson into the starting lineup. i don't think they beat osu without moore's heroics though. he makes the players around him better and is an integral piece of the success, but is the fourth, maybe fifth best player on the team. with that said, he may be the first or second most valuable. they are two very different things.

I love the image of 7'2" Rik Smits on a motorcycle.
