Anyone have any idea what the Marist women have brought to the conference? Obviously since its women's basketball I cant imagine its as much as Siena but I definitely dont think its "ten times less" as one Siena fan thought in the comments of that piece.

by running off with the money. How is Siena gonna afford Fran's big raise if this is the case?

Villanova really missed Casiem Drummond. Soon as he left, they became a Final Four team, that's all.

He stinks, OK?

We might have Drummond. But Siena has Kyle Downey. Maybe we ought to deal with that.

I was in Dayton. I rooted for Siena. They had about 500-750 people. Do they travel better than Marist???? The year they beat Marist in Bridgeport, they traveled well after they beat Marist. They didn't travel until they knew they were on TV. It's easy to say they are the breadwinner when the tourney is in Albany. They only travel well when they think think the odds are in their favor. Trust me, when Martin kicks Fran's ass and the tourney is somewhere other than Albany, we'll see how dedicated their fans are...

To be fair...Siena students were on spring break when the tournament was in Bridgeport. So I give them a slight pass for that one.

However I do agree about the Chuck Martin asskicking. That'll happen.

They do tend to be frontrunners... It's just a matter of time before Marist rules the roost... Personally, I think they can win it next year. With Drummond inside, they will be tough to beat..

How much are we talking? I am ridiculously excited to have a 6-10 guy back on the team with actual big man pedigree, but are we talking like mini-Dwight Howard or what?

Choke Martin isn't kicking anyone's ass let alone Siena's. He had a chance to do that and before the night was over he needed the heimlich maneuver when Fran turned him inside out. BTW Matt won 20 in Virginia and went to a postseason tournament. But LP --- Last Place --- Martin is better, I guess.

He is bringing in some very athletic talent. If they have a good head for the game as well, Siena has one more year of dominance left.

as Brady. You would think he was John Wooden. Good lord, he finish 1 place higher on average in the MAAC standings than Magarity did, was .500 in big games and couldn't recruit even if he was the only coach in the room.

Then he leaves when he gets his feeling hurt. Good riddance.

Since you Siena guys feel the league needs to get better overall simply to benefit the Saints for NCAA seeding purposes, you should be happy the guy left. He was holding you back.

What the hell did Martin do wrong in that game??? Did he miss the foul shots? Honestly, looking back on it, I don't know how the hell he won as many games as he did. He could have won 3 or 4 others. The talent level stunk. Keep thinking along those lines Ed1M... You'll be singing a different tune in the upcoming years... He had no inside game. Now he'll have a force in Drummond and more overall size and athleticism. If Siena is so great and Fran is the master, how the hell did he let his team get down 14 to a last place team? Also down in his home arena with 10 to play.

Never mind.
Your right.
Bad coaching job by Fran at Siena and by Siena grad Matt Brady at JMU. Bad.
Great job by Coach Chucky!
Yayyyyyyyy!

basically nothing to speak of Yankee. Much the same as the Siena Grad, (like that has some bearing issue) currently coaching at JMU did at his time at Marist.

I don't dislike Fran as a coach. You acted like Martin cost Marist the game. Wait until he gets some players. Brady isn't a bad coach either. Just could have handled things better. Your points don't make sense.

i remember the tourney in bridgeport and marist fans were well represented. a case could be made that was because marist was the #1 seed. i say this because i have been to a lot of maac tourneys and i can't say that i have ever anything near the amount of marist fans as were at that tourney. there were a ton of siena fans at the siena/marist game that year and the students came on monday as they were on spring break the week before (no on-campus housing). so when you say siena fans are frontrunners, etc, you are not telling the truth. in 1997, the tourney was in buffalo and siena was the 7th or 8th seed (out of 8) with an overall record of like 8-25 and there was at least 300 fans from the school there. i can't remember a game where there hasn't been a strong contingent of siena fans at a game within driving distance regardless of the team being dominant or terrible. during laniers years, the attendance was at its all time highs. so your argument that siena fans are bandwagon jumpers is a little off base.

I'm just saying that they don't travel that much better than anybody else. Their fan base is much bigger so it's relative.

Based on the letter to the editor in Sunday's Times Union, it seems fans in Dayton wished Siena fans didn't travel at all! Seems I remember quite a few Siena fans who accused Marist fans of being obnoxiouis and "Oh how horrible we had to put up with that type of behavior." Well, based on people in Ohio, they're grateful Siena lost the second game so fans in Indy weren't subjected to the same "drunk, rude, and P{rofane" students that fans in Dayton were subjected to. But of course, I'm sure Siena fans will have plenty of ways to spin this one as well.

it is up to the arena staff to remove people if they are indeed doing what is being accused.

it obviously in no way could be an ohio state fan's sour grapes, so i am sure siena fans were acting way out of line. the .5% of fans in the building were surely having the swat team en route. the difference between this incident and the marist incident two years ago at mccann is that the one at mccann was a home game with the athletic director sitting courtside and making no effort to stop it. kids will be kids, and drunk kids will be even worse, but for the administration to enable the behavior to happen is another story. i personally watched murray the entire game when the chants took place and he did nothing. actually looked like he was trying to ignore it. if it was one chant, ok, not a big deal, but when the "F*CK SIENA" chant was going around the arena for the 2nd to 10th time, I would expect someone to do something.

if siena fans were doing what is being reported (which must be true, because there is no way this guy could just be pissed that his team lost to the smallest school in the tournament) I hope they were thrown out of the game. If they did that at the TUC, they would have. Many Siena students were removed from games this year at the TUC. I don't think Siena kids are any better than Marist's kids, or vice versa. I think they are mostly very similar. What I think the problem was at the game two years ago was the mccann staff/athletic dept staff's unwillingness to do anything about it.

If you are gonna say Marist students did something wrong, say Siena students did so as well and move on. Don't try to make it about the athletic directors or college communities.

not bitter at all. i just post facts and what i see. if someone disagrees with that, then that is ok. i was at the game at mccann when the f siena chants took place over and over again and i saw no effort from anyone working security or from the athletic department to stop it (murray was standing in corner by entrance. that is a fact, i saw it with my own eyes. i am not a siena homer where i have skewed glasses. if it happened at siena and d'argenio sat there at watched it, i would say the same thing about siena and him. i was extremely proud of the way the siena students handled themselves that night. they did not retaliate in any way and worried more about cheering their team to a very hardfought victory. if siena kids were there chanting f marist and marist fans were cheering on their team and not retaliating, i would give credit to marist and their students and probably apologized for the behavior of our students. i am not naive enough to think that in other situations, students from siena were the ones instigating problems, but all I can say is when it happens at the TUC, it is dealt with quickly, almost too quickly if you ask me. i've seen at least a dozen times this past year an isolated student get removed from the arena.

I remember that game Upstate. I agree with you on that one.
No reason for those chants. I was pissed when it happened.
The school should stop that shit..

and i've seen a number of students escorted out of mccann when they start fuck siena chants. in big games with siena, when mccann is packed (even though it's not a rivalry, as you've claimed), security will give verbal warnings, but they know that they can't escort all the students out.
