Some twain librairies name the returned handle as a HBITMAP but it is probably a DIB handle,

which is really a handle to a memory block allocated by windows.

It is strange that your image is converted to 24 bit. That means that your scanner probably

returned it as 24 bit. I have done a lot of B/W scanning without problems. Are you sure your

scanner options are properly set? You may also try the precompiled Envision Demo.Exe and

check if the image is returned as 24 bit by doing a format conversion operation after

scanning an image.
