In reply to: BH 's message, "It’s worth remembering that at 22 DC play zero games for the Swans" on 13:11 28/04/25 Mon

as far as I can tell watching a replay at double speed, to half way through the 3rd quarter Cox has 2 marks, both uncontested, 2 kicks, and 3 handballs for the game.

then about 15:45 into the 3rd he takes it out of the ruck for a scrubber kick along the ground for his 3rd kick bringing his posession tally to 6.

that leads to a West goal, and is his 2nd? score involvment from the paly as far as I can tell, (his dish handball from his second mark results in a point).

Cox then gets a good thumping kick out of the next centre bounce for his 7th touch, marked by oppo on the 50, but no shame in it.

It's actually Steene in the 3rd who takes a contested mark in the 50 (from a Hayes kick) and goals, then crumbs for a point to put us ten points up in the dying stages of the third.

He then takes a second contested mark, over Cox in fact, who runs back to the goal line to accept the pass for his first goal of the game.

the goal is from a free kick for chopping the arm btw, not from a mark, and just to allude back to something I posted earlier, Steene does actually deliver the ball to the hotspot in a pop kick that favours the tall forward jumping at the ball, as opposed to pushing it deep towards the behind post like Cox's frist kcik in the 1st qtr.

So Steene kicks the first goal, crumbs a point, then takes the desisive mark that results in Cox's goal to put us 16 points up in the 3rd.

To 3qtr time there is absolutely no questino that Steene has been the most effective ruck and the most effective forward of the two players.

And another thing, we start every quarter with Steen as our number 1 ruck. He is clearly the ruck we are developing as our understudy to Cameron, Cox is starting every quarter at full forward and Smnit, our worst ruck, at full back, then we play Steene for ten in the ruck and move him forward for Cox, then Cox for ten in the ruck and Smit moves up with Cox going to CHF.

Cox is being used as a CHF running up the wings every quarter and to 3 qtr time fails to take a single up the line mark.

Cox's only actually contested mark, his 3rd mark overall, comes in the 4th quarter, when his direct opponenet, utterly inexplicably, elects to attempt to mark from behind, over a 211cm opponent, when he hits the contest perfectly to puch, but doesn't. It's mind boggling.

Thats Coxy's second goal. From a clear and egregeous error from his opponent.

Cox then moves into the ruck, gets a rush of blood to the head and after a handball that comes back to him gets run down from behind.

He gets a free kick in the next ruck contest.

Outside of his taps (some of which where magnificent, especially that one for Brown, and hi s"halving" contests in the air) thats basically his whole game.

I agree that it may not matter, he has experience, and we know what he can bring, he has nothing to prove.

I just think that Steene was better, and that it was ten minutes from him in the back half of the third that actually put the gap in the game.

GO PIES !!!!!
