In reply to: VictoryPark 's message, "Ugle-Hagen granted further leave away from the club 🤔" on 17:25 29/04/25 Tue

“ Any possible distraction from football has now been removed.

Ugle-Hagan will still do weights training with a personal trainer at a gym in Hawthorn twice a week and will complete personal running sessions.

Two sources close to the player, who would not speak publicly because of the sensitive nature of the situation, believe he is as far away from playing football at any level as he ever has been.

Coach Luke Beveridge has been clear that Ugle-Hagan was not close to a return, even when star young forward Sam Darcy went down with a long-term knee injury in round six.

The 23-year-old, who was the No.1 pick in the 2020 draft, is contracted until the end of next season, but doubts continue to grow over his future at the Western Bulldogs.

More to come“

Interesting isn’t it how perceived future longer term talent can attract such a financial reward ( I’m assuming his contract is around $900 k pa as reported ) and the obligation to pay seemingly continues , regardless of what effort you demonstrate to overcome personal challenges…..regardless of their nature.

I accept the mental issues do differ from Physical ones , but it is likely that repeat aggravations of the same injury ( eg Elliot missed nearly two years and Darcy Moore missed a huge slab as young players and Brownlow Medallist Mitch is battling into his 30s with a problem that a smallish slowish on baller would least want ….one that impacts his mobility ) would impact the confidence and desire to continue in this most demanding of sports . Many young players whil have such injury challenges disappear from the. Sport completely , while others , like our high draft pick Freeman , refuse to be overwhelmed by repeat injuries and continue to try elsewhere at different levels . Another example is watching with interest how Murphy ( a sportsman with broad abilities) is now involved at club assistant coaching level after repeat Concussive injuries curtailed his career

$900 k pa equates to roughly $2450 per day

No recruiter or list manager can foresee the future of course . Their job is very challenging and they try as best they can to advance and protect both the Clubs future prospects and the player’s future financial reward.

Both parties must reasonably expect a genuine effort at fulfilment . We definitely got just that from Elliot and Moore ( examples above) and one anticipates that come he’ll or high water Mitch will do his best to contribute . Murph is also still in there contributing at a place he loves with ex team mates doing his bit to help the 2025 drive for success , but in a quite different way

It’s hard for outsiders to understand any individual’s personal challenges.
I hope that Jamarra can get his mojo back and show the full extent of his footy talent . All supporters from every club would think that inwardly .
The first step has to be consistent contribution and concerted self input towards a return .

Good luck to the young fellow
