I am really sorry about Kieran. Yes, you are a very brave soul to have done what you had to do, because of love.

Thank you, Susan and Ellie, but I'll let you into a secret...Not really brave at all-but it's the "practical thing to do " out here... esp for a dog in pain and distressed.
I have put down several of our "oldies" over the years- they would freak out at the Vet's, and this way , they are just eating a treat, or simply sleeping as old, deaf doggies do- then they are suddenly in a much better place!
It's not a service I enjoy, but at least I know they were thinking happy thoughts and were comfortable at home- no stress of a car trip, strange people or anything. Believe me, at the vets where I worked, some of the dogs would get soo bewildered and scared, and the owners would be uncomfortable and crying- athough there was no actual pain for the animal, there was often much anguish and panic.
A friend of mine took her old dog down to the park, with the Vet in tow, and when the dog had settled, she gave him the needle herself- same reasoning- he was then calm and reasonably happy....
So much for that topic- promise- I won't elaborate!
