  Well, we're back to schoolwork today. X is powering on. J is lagging. Life is normal *grin*.
  
  One of our neighbours checked out our gardening today. He couldn't believe how much fishfern we'd pulled out and was amazed at the changes to the fenced yard. I already have to replace three plants (all robin gordons).
  
  Dh spent some time this morning negotiating with a guy we know what would be needed for dh to take a position as leading hand technician for the security side of this guy's business, which would mean a complete change in pace for us. Dh would be taking on less hours/five day weeks/annual holidays, and still able to do personal work on weekends if he wants, plus there will be profit-sharing once the business is making money in its own right. It sounds good, but is going to be a huge change if we decide to run with it.

  orry, folks, but i've had trouble getting on here !Anyway, its working today!!
  not much news- we've had a couple of frosts, and some lovely foggy mornings with sunny days- my favourite weather.
  We have only seen mybrother for 6 hrs. out of the past 3 weeks- he's away workig, but dashes home for supplies once a week or so( he's about an hour's drive away). Last night he had to fix the car- I was all set to go to town , but the car wouldn't be in it!
  anyway, it was only a little hose that became loose--duuuh- I didn't notice it.
  We're hoping for some more rain, things are drying out again, and the green is looking a bit tired already.At least the animals have something to eat for a change.
  Speaking of which- that Dogzonline forum board IS addictive- it's easy to use, interesting, and even I can post photos!!
  Our local Agricultural show is on in about a month, and an artist friend of mine from Melb. is coming up with some of her work. I haven't seen her for years, so am looking forward to it- I think they're coming down to stay at our place for a few days too.If anyone wants to see some of her stuff- try www.ecoart.com.au and enjoy! bye for now.

  Just after I got the news that Simon and Sinead are coming back to Melb, I got the news that my oldest son,Peter is leaving.. he's flying to England on 30th Oct for a 12 month working holiday. Similar happened 3 years ago.Peter had been living in NSW- Newcastle, for yonks, decided to come back down to Melb. Just as he came down, Si and Sinead moved up to Sydney. Now they're coming back and Pete is heading overseas! We joke that they just want to avoid each other.. not true.. get on well together.
  Susan, don't think Si and Sinead have any jobs down here to come back to, just going to enjoy the holiday first. I love the name Sinead too.. she was born in Ireland, Irish mother, Aussie father, came to Aus to live when Sinead was three.

  We've spent two days (so far) pulling fish fern and asparagus fern out of a section of our garden. Dh didn't know we had an old septic tank in that part of the garden until we started on this. We're planning to get a load of dirt in and then fill the gaps with bulbs and pots until the landlords decide what they want to do with it, but we were just so sick of looking at the tangle that we got permission to pull it all up. I figure we have at least another day of pulling stuff out before we can poison the area (have to because the ferns drop nodes as soon as you start pulling and if you don't poison they just start popping up all over again).
  
  I'm also thinking of putting the robin gordons that China doesn't like (keeps ripping up) in the landscaped area out into this section so that at least they might have a chance to grow.

  Sorry, I thought that I had given an update, but it seems I haven't.
  
  The vet was pleased with Tommy's progress and I was allowed to bring her home last Monday, with instructions for her to eat a renel kibble, she won't entertain it but would rather starve. Some if you will know Tracy (from Denmark) she send me an email with 2 recipies in for homecooked renal dog food, and Tommy loves it.
  
  Took her back to the vet on Thursday and he was very pleased with her. She had put on weight and had a shine back on her coat and was much stronger. Then he asked about her eating, and wasn't very pleased when I told him that I was cooking her food, but I emailed the recipies and not heard since.
  
  Since then, we went away for the weekend and she has slowly gained strength. She is only allowed a short walk on the lead, but this morning she set off with her tail and head high, and walked a fair distance, then when I turned to take her home, down went her head and tail and I had to drag her back home. Tomorrow I will take all 3, but the other 2 will get a shorter walk until Tommy is up to the normal long ones. I am sure it won't be long judging by the rate she is improving.
  
  She will always have to be on a special diet and medication, but hopefully she will not deteriate for a long time.
  
  Kidney failure is one of those that has to be caught early and if you do, there is a lot you can do to help your dog.

  Been a bit busy over the last week or so and haven't had a lot of time on here. We are trying to help our son get all the paperwork organised for going overseas, passport, work Visa, resume for the nursing agency that will help with finding a job. Doesn't help that most of the paperwork required (Birth Certificates etc) is here at home with us and not with Leigh. Anyway, we are getting there but I must admit I wish I wasn't helping him go away (lol).
  The weather has been lovely for the last few days (low 20's) and have got up to date with the fruit picking. The late navels are not wanted by the packing house until 28th July, so there's a bit of a breather now. I heard the other day that the first shipment of oranges arrived in San Diego, USA last week.
  Rob brought me home a lovely surprise from Adelaide last week. He bought me a copy of To Kill a Mockingbird. I had mentioned a few old classics that I wanted copies of and he found it on special. I was so pleased. I can't believe that Rob has never seen this movie until now.

  OK. This is a bit personal, so hope you don't find it weird or a bit out of the blue. Been married to hubby seven years now, and though we never fight, why is it that I kinda feel like there should be _more_ happening? D'you or did you guys feel that way at some point in your marriages? Hubby and I have known each other for 20 years!!!! since college. Took us 12 years before deciding to take that leap. Am I asking for too much, or is it normal too feel bored once in a while?

  In early August my youngest Simon and his wife Sinead are coming back to Melbourne to live after 2 1/2years in Sydney.
  They'll be staying with Sinead's sister for a few weeks then leaving for overseas for a holiday,England Ireland, Sweden,France, Germany, Spain and Portugal... then back to melbourne to settle. Love to have family around!

  Well, I'm not here for a few days and you all go beserk with writing again! will scroll down and stick in my comments to other messages soon.
  First Walhalla, for those who don't know of it, it's an old goldmining town in country Vic, around 3 1/2 hours drive out of Melbourne. I went there yesterday with daughter, Pam, grandaughter rebekah, and Pam's sis-in law Jenny. weleft pam's at 7am (i'd stayed there the night before) rugged up like bunnies.. because it was clear, frosty, starry and COLD! Walhalla is incredible, a deep, deep valley sourrounded by towering hills of gum trees, current permanent population is only twenty,(plus at least one cat and one dog that I saw!)
  We walked, walked, walked,looking at the Miners museum, historic houses, everything is very steep and up hill.. even the cemetery is a long up hill walk, and all the graves are on a slant on the side of the hill! there's virtually hardly any flat ground,except in the valley base.
  had lunch, toasted sandwiches and devonshire tea at one of the little cafes. Didnt go on the mine tour, as that took 2/3hours in itself, and we had another 3 1/2 hour drive to get home. oh, the joke about the cemetery is they had to bury them standing up because the land is so steep!
  Well, it was a pretty fantastic day, and the scenery was so beautiful.

  I was just re-reading a couple of threads.
  
  One was about pains and my suggestion of eating more celery. I don't always take my own advice, but this month we've been eating a lot of soups with celery in them and wonder of all wonders I hardly got any period pains this month. I did have incredible cravings for chocolate (even a headache until I had a Milo - paracetamol didn't help) instead. I wonder if my body is trying to tell me something. *grin*
  
  The other thread was the Matrix Reloaded thread which brought to mind that I took the kids to watch Daddy Daycare not long ago and it was excellent, well worth going to see if you're finding that you need a good laugh.
  
  I also picked up (for $35) a special deal for our local cinema where you pay to get a card which comes with three free movie tickets (must be used between certain dates) and then for the rest of the time before February next year you can buy tickets for yourself and three other people with you for $8.50 (normally $13.00 I think, know it's definitely in the teens somewhere). For people like dh and I who like going to the movies for a night out together this was a bargain.

  Well, my b'day present arrived yesterday (at 8.30pm, were supposed to arrive after 4 sometime). Nearly ten weeks ago we ordered two armchairs (one side straight, the other curved to make it easy to swing your legs over the side and read) and a sofabed ottoman in parchment and eggplant (fancy names for cream and purple). All the new cushions and throws I bought work really well, so I'm so relieved I didn't waste my money on stuff that didn't look right. We spent all of Saturday tidying up/rearranging the office/school area so that the school area is now near the diningroom and the loungeroom is down where the school area used to be. Dh re-ran the antenna into this room (I love having a technically capable husband) and now the desk are facing straight out over the balcony so that when the blinds are open we can look out onto the bush.
  
  Today we went shopping at Lush and bought some goodies, bought new strings for my guitar because I'm planning to start playing again, bought some books at Dymocks and some other personal stuff at Bras and Things.

  Well, it finally happened- we got WET! last Fri. ,just on dark, it pelted down- 20 mm.(80 points) in just 20 mins.
  even tho they'r all sandy, Our roads became rivers, they overflowed, and the water came racing into the yard!I was oiut with a shovel digging drains to try and keep the water away from the house, whil;e it sounded a bit like Niagara Falls- there were sheets of water about 100 mtrs wide pouring down the bare hills, following old tracks or hollows- it was amazing- the noise was the scariest- ,"cause I couldn't really see all that far, and didn't know how much more was coming. Of course the "man of the house" is away for 2 weeks trying to earn some money, so it was just me and an old shovel, thanking God profusely for the rain, but pleading for a bit less of a "dump"!!
  Mum was inside, as she's not been well, but I did drag her out to see the roads "running a banker"! last time something similar happened was 12 yrs. ago, and although there was more rain, there was a lot of grass growing, so we didn't get the run-off effect.( it was also Summer, and daylight- much more pleasant)
  We went on to receive nearly 40 mm over the next few days, and although there are still ducks swimming along a couple of clay tracks,and most of our roads are useless( they're more like holes), things are drying out. There's green everywhere, frogs, dung beetles, even the odd mushroom!Absolutely delightful!!!
  I couldn't get to work, as the roads were flooded- so that's why there were no posts.
  In that vein- I picked up my computer(YAY!!!) last week, now all we have to do is get hooked up to the "net", and I'll annoy you all during the week as well!!LOL. We've never had one , so apart from being poorer, we will be on a learning curve! It will be so nice, tho' to access all sorts of info- we are somewhat isolated, so this will be a big help. Evn our mail is not each day- Mon. and Thurs. we get mail, and if it's wet we can't drive the 6.5 kms to collect it from our mailbox!!
  The new puppies are now in an outside pen, and eating puppy food- at 4 weeks- they are very cute!

  I woke up this morning to find that J had been sick during the night and rather than wake dh and I up he had simply changed his shirt and moved himself to the loungeroom with a clean blanket (eeeewwwwwwww!!!!!!! It had soaked into everything!).
  
  I managed to get back to bed at 6.15, only to have dh ring at 6.45 to say sorry for forgetting it was my birthday (he assumed I would have stayed up, but I was tired and it's my birthday so I gave myself permission to snuggle back up in bed and go back to sleep).
  
  I thought J was getting a little better until I gave him some panadol to bring his temperature down. Let's just say, that was not a successful venture.
  
  Then I got a call from my doctor's surgery to say the doctor wants to see me about some blood tests I had done last week. Dh won't be home early enough today (and I can't go out with J being sick anyway), so that's going to have to wait until Thursday, when my doctor is back in again.
  
  X is bucking having to do schoolwork because J doesn't have to.
  
  Up-notes, X gave me a beautiful hand-made card this morning, dh did remind the kids that it was my birthday, my mother rang from Qld even though I know it had to cost her a fortune on her mobile (she also had to walk a couple of kms to get signal) and some of my friends on an on-line forum made a birthday thread for me (although one did threaten me with vegemite in my birthday cake).

  Tommy kept falling over this morning so I took her to the vets again. He wanted to give her Remaldy but I objected so he asked if he could take some blood to check her liver and kidneys before making the decision, which I agreed to of course.
  
  When the tests were done, it was discovered that she had serious kidney failure, which her condition had disguised. She is still there and will be for a couple of days on a drip, followed by more blood to see if there is an improvement and how much.
  
  I telephoned to see how she was before going into see Bill and tell him. She has perked up and wolfed her tea down, so they seem to think that she will have a chance.
  
  I will keep phoning to see how she is, but I don't think I could go and see her, I would probably bring her home, and I don't think it would be fair to her to see me then leave her again.

  Bill is clear of the virus, but is still very weak. The doctor has discharged him but he is not mobile enough to come home, he has to be able to walk a little. Hopefully he will be getting physio for this very soon.

  Thanks all so much for the warm welcome back. I'm thinking now, following Karen's advice on DC, to watch Greta closely and see if she is indeed an ODD (only dog dog). That had actually crossed mine and hubby's mind a few times before but I always thought that _any_ dog, no matter now "spoiled" or used to being the only one, would get used to another canine if properly introduced. Now I'm not so sure, she is so jealous of other dogs (and chickens, and cats, etc. etc.) that come near any member of her "pack." so there. drats. i do so want a second dog, but i will wait and see what happens.
  
  anyway, I WANT TO POST A PIC! Just got a digicam some months back and I have terrific pix I want to share with you all, but don't know what website would host pix for free. Suggestions?

  haven't been around in soooooo long. just thought i'd drop a note to say hello to all the old regulars - margaret, susan, kylie, dudo, ellie, tina, jacqueline.... forgive me if there are others i failed to mention. my memory is starting to give out one me, he he.
  
  i was gone for a long time end of 2002 and since then have been busy teaching literature classes here in manila. by the way, i did just post again on dog chat because of a dilemma i'm having about a getting a second dog, i and my husband really want one but not sure if this is the right TIME to go for it. so if you have time, check out the post at dogchat that i made just a few hourS ago, and if you have some tips/ideAS that might help i'd sure appreciate it.
  
  my dog greta, 3 yrs gsd, in case some you rememebr her, is still a very sweet dog. but i have inexplicably landed some teaching jobs in lit that require me to be out of the home at least 3 times at week for about 6 hours (not to worry, someone really sweet to greta is always here when nobody else is available to keep an eye on her.) I DO WANT A SECOND DOG!!!!! but for more details about why it's being a difficult decision to make so far, i hope some of you'll take the time reading my post at Karen's boardhost dogchat, you'll get a pretty good idea of what is keeping me from getting a second dog. any insight from all you knowledgebale and experienced people with dogs -- your suggestion will be most be most welcome and serously considered.   Yes,I know I am always talking of cold or cool weather but you all didn't have to send this much heat- 33 cels yesterday and today..I spent most of it immersed in water!
  We usually get a few days like this in July or August but this is still June.My poor dogs won't get much of a walk today unless fog comes this evening to cool it down a bit.

  Last Saturday Bill became ill with a stomack bug, and all he has eaten is toast and drank less than 2 pts of fruit juice a day. I called the doctor out on Monday and Wednesday but he didn't want him to go to hospital because of the amount of infections are there. This morning, the carer who gets him up, showered and dressed couldn't cope because he was so weak that I had to help her.
  
  I telephoned the doctor and told him that if he doesn't put him into hospital I will, so the doctor arranged for him to go in. There were no beds so we both spent the after noon in Accendent and Emergency, but I had to go home to see to the dogs. I do know were he was going to go, but there were others ahead of him to to there.
  
  While I was eating my tea, Tommy fell down twice in less than 5 minutes, of off to the vets we went. He gave her a good examination and found pain in her hips. He has given her an injection to kill the pain and I have to take her back tomorrow.
  
  We haven't had any rain for weeks, but this evening it made up for it. When I went out I locked the front door and put the key in my jeans pocket, but when I got home the key had gone. I went across to my neighbour who as a key but hers is missing as well. Eventually, by using the caravan step I managed to open the gate and luckily because I was so anxious about Tommy I hadn't locked the back door and was able to get into the house, cold, wet and very miserable.
  
  Dixie is also giving problems, she won't stop pacing up and down the garden and refuses to come in out of the rain. I have a flap for them to go in and out when they want and I have had to close it off to keep Dixie in.
  
  Someone once said, that if it wasn't for no luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all.
  
  Thankfully, Tomorrow is another day, I don't think I could cope with another like this

  had to go to the Vet first thing this morning!!I had to put make-up on at 7:30 a.m. Ha Ha anyway he has ascratched eye and it is swollen shut!!I was out shopoping last evening till 9 p.m( told yall i was over Hermit stage) and mike was asleep when i got home and i noticed Cory had his eye closed!!!I opened it and screamed"Michael wake up i can't find Cory Vette's Eyeball!!!" He woke up really fast and grabbed him and said Oh My God, it is swollen shut!!We were Mortified!!Anyway it is a scratch the vet said, but we have 2 eye medicines to put in 4 times a day and 2 times aday!!I might have done it w/brush while brushing him, or might have done it w/fingernail getting sleep out of his eyes, I do that 3 times a day! or one of the other babies might have done it playing!!Anyway it isn't an infection, and w/big bug eyes they are prone to eye infections so I was really scared!!He is my heart you know and my first one!!I had to call MSN tonight cause I couldn't get on Internet for the last 3 days!!I would get cut off, I answered an E-mail from Jac and couldn't even send it till today!1They had to give me a new password. I have it free till May 5, 2002, but if i don't keep it my e-mail will go back to: DONNADEE3@MSN.COM. sO IF YALL DON'T HEAR FROM ME AT MSN you will know I cancelled it and am back at EXCITE!!!Hugs, Donna

  If anyone has any spare rain- please send it our way??!! Drought is here. We've had NO RAIN since Nov.2001, and all sorts of things are dying. The "mighty" Murray River is actually drying up, as the catchments are all below 50% full, and can't release any more.Not good. When one lives alongside the river and in the "bush" as I do, it's very depressing.
  I was really pleased last week- GingerLilies I'd had for years actually flowered, and smelt heavenly. I'd told Mum to come and see the flowers, then discovered our resident euro(kangaroo cousin), Currency, had eaten the flowers and buds !!He(Currency ) has lived in the garden for years- in Winter he sleeps in the deserted chook shed- and although he leaves manure everywhere, and does things like this, I think he's great! He's not a tame beast, just chooses to frequent the garden of our Spare house, alongside the river.To save my bulbs and the last roses I ll have to spray everything with a smelly fish-based fertilizer. This stops him for a while- he won't eat fish!!
  Anyway- keep well.. "talk" to you next week, if the computers are working!

  I don't really have much to tell but I thought I would take time out to post to appease Donna. It would be a shame if we didn't take time out to post here. I look here everyday and often wondered where eveyone was as well.
  Hope everyone had a good Easter. We did here. Had unexpected visitors, my cousin and wife on the way back from Adelaide to Burpengary (sp?) in Queensland. Was a good visit. Also took a day trip to Mildura to catch up on shopping and a movie. Saw Bandit with Cate Blanchett and enjoyed it (except you have to leave your brain at the door, which is easy for me (lol).
  I received an email the other day from a Linda Pease and as I don't know a Linda Pease and it had an attachment (virus conscious) I deleted it. Did anybody else get an email from that person?
  The weather has started to cool down now, about 23C today which I enjoy.
  Has the snow subsided overseas yet.
  Oh, and the footy season has started again, go Crows!!!
  All our furbabies are fit and well as is our family. Hope everybody is fine.

  Besides the foot of snow we got the day after first day of spring we are having bitter cold weather and winds that drive the cold right through you!
  Regardless I braved the cold and went to the coffee shop.Was pleased the girls noticed my weight loss..only 11 lbs but I must have tightened up some muscles because I do look as if I lost more than I did lose.Swimming and exercise are paying off.
  It is snowing like the middle of winter out right now.Hope I can get out to church tomorrow.It's costing a small fortune keeping the bird feeders full for the poor birds that have returned from the south-Glad I have lots of 30 and 35 ft. pine trees for the birds to keep a bit warm in.
  Hope this is the last blast of winter weather but one never knows.
  Donna must be busy basking in the Florida sun..I never hear from her any more.Jenn sent me a joke or two but she must be busy too.BJ and Ann and Alan must all be in a busy spell as well.Hope all is fine with everyone.Hugs Tina

  Yesterday we had to start the daunting task of going through Rob's Mum home in preparation for selling it. All the children (Rob is one six kids) gathered to do this.
  The history is that his Mum has Alzhiemers and was placed in a nursing home about 3 months ago (secure unit). His father passed away about 14 years ago so his Mum was on her own.
  She had lived here for 53 years so it's the only home all his brothers and sisters have known.
  Finding so many memories broke my heart but at least we can keep them. Our son's letter to Granny, report cards from school, the grand childrens drawings (she has 12),the lovely dresses Rob's Mum wore to each of her kids weddings etc etc.
  One of the worst things for me is that she has lost these memories already and we try to keep reminding her often when we visit.
  I am sure others have had to go through this sort of thing and understand my feelings?

  Hi Guys, went to the Blue Mountains on Sunday and picked up our new kitten. He is very cute, he is the classic black and silver tabby with white. He is such a smoocher, we have been having lots of head and face rubbing. He and Spencer are getting along fine, and are playing together nicely. Mollys "not happy Jan", hopefully things will improve. He hasn't met the dogs yet, one thing at a time. I have promised Stephen that this is the last animal...I'd better keep it for a little while.   Just to update...
  
  Cordelia has now lost 7 kilo's! She isn't limping as bad now. She has about another 4 kilo's to lose now, so it shouldn't be too difficult for her.
  
  Guinness is now 12 months old! Weighs 54kg, and supposedly still has another 6 months of growing to do! He is already nearly the size of a Great Dane! He's a Giant Dill brain, but I love him to death!
  
  Pooka has put on about 4 kilo's I reckon! He had a bath today and I can't see his ribs quite so much now! Will post a pic of him on DC tomorrow. He is getting his weight done in the morning! So happy! He is shiny, and so lovely!
  
  My tiny girl is still doing well. I haven't named her yet. Will give that another week yet! But she is gaining weight too. She's 6 days old today!
  
  Billy, the 3 legged Lab is being revolting to Pooka. He has decided to attempt to slaughter Pooka at almost every opportunity! Aside from that, he is lovely, and needs to find a new home, very soon! (or I'm going to kill him myself if he actually hurts Pooka!!)
  
  My son (Sean) actually loves school this year, which is a miricle in itself! He has a wonderful teacher and she is coping beautifully with his Hyperactive tendancies! She is wonderful at regaining his attention without embarrassing him!
  
  The Vet Nursing course is going brilliantly! I positively love it. As much as I hate being away from home for such an extended period of time (8hrs), the dogs are coping fine with it all! It is only one day a week that I am out that long, so I suppose it isn't that bad! (and every second week we get to take our dogs with us to class for prac. (obviously my choice is always Cordelia!!)
  
  My job is still exccessively dull, but I am getting used to it. I only work about 12-14 hrs per week (thankGod), so I can put up with that!
  
  I am still as poor as a church mouse, but I am exceedingly happy with my life, including the fact that I actually have to eat my words from a few months ago about all men being bastards and not wanting one around.......cause I am now seeing the most wonderful, gentle, dog loving (really important!!!!!) horse loving, funny, gorgeous man in the entire universe!!!!

  I reached my "goal weight" 10 days ago. In the process of losing 25lbs, I have become incredibly productive. Impossible for me to sit still. Cleaned the house top to bottom. Took 6 bags of clothing/bedding/toys to Goodwill. Now I can get in the closets LOL!!!! Well with all that cleaning, needed to "spiff" up the place a bit. Bought a new shower curtain for our bath and new linens for Rob's room. My taxes are done, my doctor's appointment is in 2 weeks and today I have to call an make reservations for our 2 day vacation to the waterpark. I feel GREAT!!!!

  My daughter and her husband have just got back from 2 weeks lovely holiday in Tasmania.. and now they're talking of moving there!!! I have 2 sons in Sydney.. and if my daughter moves to Tas.. that leaves me all alooooone in old Melbourne town..Is that anyway to treat a grandmother!!?
  I'm trying to be coooool.. it may not eventuate.. and of course I do have some good friends.. but as Kylie said it's awful when you are so far away from family so I'm trying not to think about it too much.

  Well I just got back from the region 1 speech and debate tournament (for schools in California, Washington and Oregon) late last night (left on Thursday morning) I was going to post and let you all know I was leaving but the board wasn't working.
  
  AND NOBODY NOTICED I WAS GONE! *sniff* LOL! I'm just kidding!
  
  Luckily you were not too chatty (SHOCK! HORROR!) and I only had to spend 2 hours on catch up. LOL!
  
  Anyway while I was gone one of the newest (3 week old aprox) litter of ratlets escaped and his mum then escaped to go look for him (I'm guessing that's what happened).
  My parents caught them both but not knowing her they belonged they decided to put them in a seemingly empty cage. Unfortunately it wasn't empty it housed my female mouse (who is an albino and dislikes light so she had built herself a network of under bedding tunnels to live in).
  Now rats despise mice and will hunt them down and kill them. Poor little girl had no chance... My parents saw it happen before their eyes and said it was quick...
  
  Also the filter on both of my main fish tanks packed in and were in danger of starting a fire! I came home to this LOUD rattling noise and a burning smell. So now the tanks will need daily partial water changes until I can get the filters repaired or replaced...
  
  Anyway didn't do too well at this tournament. Have a new debate partner and we lost all of our rounds , tied for 11th place in extemporaneous speaking and didn't do too badly (don't know where I placed) with my persuasive speech.
  
  Anyway heres the funny bit.
  The coach insisted that I have at least three events for this tournament (everyone else had two) ut what with Megan and Midterms...
  I wrote this speech at 2am on Friday morning and delivered it that same morning and actually did better than a bunch of people who had been doing theirs since August!
  
  Now the really funny bit is that I wrote it on the problems of feral animals! LOL!
  Now seeing as people here have been discussing it and as many of you are from Aus. where it is a major problem. I was wondering if you could help me out a bit with research (The State Championships are in 10 days) If anyone knows of any online articles or would not mind being used as a source citation. Let me know, okay? Thanks!

  Well, aside from being a pessimist, i'm obviously slow.. that foal who's giving me grey hair is just growing new white/clear hooves!!!( those who aren't"horsey", stop reading) they're a bit soft to start with but should improve. due to his mother's malnutrition, the presence of a twin, and his prem. birth, he is a bit slow in developing apparently, hence the hoof change. At 5 wks. he's about the size of a "normal" 2 wk. old., but well muscled and fit as...
  He is almost well mannered on a halter/lead, and I can pick up and tap all 4 feet, pull his tail and get burrs out of his mane. Doesn't sound much, but I've never worked with a foal before, so we're both on a steep learning curve.
  he has a habit of , when he's playing, sticking his tongue out the side of his mouth- it looks like a carrot. very strange-looking, but cute.Next exciting event is vaccinations- i think we're going to be more upset than him!!Then,A.S.A.P. comes the gelding(castration),and all being well, we can start to enjoy him!!

  All this talk about work and job interviews got me wondering... what was your worst job ever? Mine was years ago when I first started working, and was a cashier at a 7-11. Not only was it taking me forever to learn that darned cash machine, I also had to deal with a few really nasty customers. The worst was this lady who insisted that I cash a check for her, without her presenting a driver's license or any other form of identification. When I refused, she screamed at me, saying she was a personal friend of the owner and HOW DARE I NOT TRUST HER??? I told her she may be my boss's friend, but I certainly didn't know her from Adam. THEN she yelled even more and threatened to report me to my boss. Thank goodness the guy I worked for was nice, and the next morning told me he found out what happend, but that I'd done the right thing. I was so mad when that happened though, I was shaking!
  
  Jaq, I'm not sure I understood what you posted somewhere below -- that a permanent worker gets paid LESS than a casual?? That's a bit strange, isn't it? What some companies here, like department stores, do is hire casual workers for three months, and then instead of hiring them as permanents, they let the girls go and hire a different batch, again as casuals. That way they don't have to spend for the benefits permanents are supposed to get. Sucks.

  Tomorrow I am heading off to a local rabbit show to pick up (sight unseen) three more rabbits (1 doe and two of her babies).
  One of the big breeders round here (in fact in the US) is giving me this doe as she has bred her twice and was going to send her to the snake food people as she has got a few nice sons and daughters out of her and doesn't need her anymore.
  This breeder is extremely picky about what she breeds and so for this doe to have been in the barn long enough to produce two litters and be deemed worthy of being sold as a breeder says a lot for her quality.
  Still no babies from Dawson!

  I know I have been neglecting you all recently, but Bill is taking a lot of looking after and it is affecting me. I went to the doctor the other day and he has given me some tablets to help me relax and let my body take over.
  
  We are not getting on very well with Social Services, and unless Bill gets his confidence back, I can't carry on much longer. I don't want him to go into care, but maybe he will have to.
  
  I do sometimes chat with Sally, and have chatted with Jenn and Solarfrog, which I really enjoy.
  
  That is all for now, I am ok in myself, just the situation is getting me down a bit.

  Billy gave Lori a Margee Diamond engagement ring on Valentine's!!!Michael helped him pick it out!!He hasn't seen or talked to his father Bill in Alabama in years so I called and his grandmother Polly ( I use to hate) answered the phone so I told her!!She was really sweet and said Bill wasn't there but they have since called Billy and Lori several times over the week-end!!!I am very excited!!Billy has a half sister named Brandy 4 years younger married w/2 kids going to nursing school.   No, No. Mo. This is one time where I won't joke. If the 'devils henchmen' thing does look about to occur, tell them politely but FIRMLT that you will not handle chickens.
  It's not a weakness Jaq. Phobias are genuine medical conditons and you shouldnt have to be subjected to that at least without desensitizing.

  Well the visitors left today and I enjoyed every minute of having young children in the house again.
  Can you imagine my heart melting when Ruby (4) told me that she loves me all the way to America and even better than Father Christmas (LOL). Well, I told her I loved her that much also.
  Was the first trip they had had away together since having a family and promise to come back soon.
  We all went for walks and collected sun flowers, watched kookaburras and went to the river and saw the houseboats and pelicans. The kids loved it as much as BIL and wife.

  Hi, folks,
  Not much time today.. as usual. Where I work (cook) on w/ends has a computer I am allowed to use, but often it is off-line or there's no-one to boot it up for me. reading quickly, everyone's been very busy the past week or so. JAC, hope the job's o.k. hope also you have stress -buster strategies! Alan- there's rats, and there's too many rats- I think your house could be the next Hitchcock movie set!?
  an OZZIE foal update- 2 weeks down the track, he looks good, like a "real "foal. He's round and muscled and glossy coated. He is also a little tyrant- am doing some "early intervention" training. WE're having desensitisation sessions, and halter training- none of which he likes, but he is improving! I am here to tell you that baby foals' hoofs are hard and sharp :)
