haven't been around in soooooo long. just thought i'd drop a note to say hello to all the old regulars - margaret, susan, kylie, dudo, ellie, tina, jacqueline.... forgive me if there are others i failed to mention. my memory is starting to give out one me, he he.

i was gone for a long time end of 2002 and since then have been busy teaching literature classes here in manila. by the way, i did just post again on dog chat because of a dilemma i'm having about a getting a second dog, i and my husband really want one but not sure if this is the right TIME to go for it. so if you have time, check out the post at dogchat that i made just a few hourS ago, and if you have some tips/ideAS that might help i'd sure appreciate it.

my dog greta, 3 yrs gsd, in case some you rememebr her, is still a very sweet dog. but i have inexplicably landed some teaching jobs in lit that require me to be out of the home at least 3 times at week for about 6 hours (not to worry, someone really sweet to greta is always here when nobody else is available to keep an eye on her.) I DO WANT A SECOND DOG!!!!! but for more details about why it's being a difficult decision to make so far, i hope some of you'll take the time reading my post at Karen's boardhost dogchat, you'll get a pretty good idea of what is keeping me from getting a second dog. any insight from all you knowledgebale and experienced people with dogs -- your suggestion will be most be most welcome and serously considered. the only thing to concider about another dog is -do you have time for it "walking,training & essential play" if you have..go for it. I haven't read your post on dc but will-just remembered you may have other decisions to make...anyway so glad to hear from you and know you are all right! cheers !!!

Hi Kate, great to see you here again - the job sounds good.
I too saw your post on Dog Chat and like Kylie, saw that Karen had replied. I go there everyday still, but Karen and Tracy are the "professionals" so to speak. Tina and Dudo come up with some great replies as well.

Nice to see you back Kate, and don't leave it so long next time.

I love having 2 or more dogs, they are really fun, but if you have doubts because of the near future, wait until aftwards.

When introducing a new dog, especially when you already have one, you need time to spend with them for them to settle together. Not only has the new dog got to get used to you all, you also have to make changes as well as your present dog.

About 2 months after we got Tommy we took both Dixie and Tommy to Ireland for 2 weeks. This really stressed Tommy out and it took some time for her to get over it.

You will make the right decision because you are researching all the options.

Hey, Ellie! Actually I didn't like cats before, but a month-long stay in Washington State last year introduced me to this semi-stray cat named Sam, and she was absolutely ADORABLE! I let her come into my cottage every night to sleep on my bed, and every morning I left a pan of milk and some soaked cookies for her. Needless to say, she rewarded me with such great affection. Oh dear. If only I could be sure Greta would get along with a cat, I'd get one right away! But as she's so bad with other dogs, and also since she goes wild when she sees a stray cat lurking in the yard, I don't think that's a possibility anytime soon. I do feel so disappointed at the possibility that she won't be very welcoming to any new pet additions to the household. :( boo hoo.

Hi Kate. I'm a bit late but welcome back! Can't help out with the dog query, as I don't have any. I d0 have 2 unbonded cats! Feller came about 3 years ago, and Grania who had been here for a year was highly offended. So all this time later they have not become friends.At best they tolerate each other, other times it's slaps and hisses!
Hope you work out what is best for Greta and you.
