2 Corinthians 4

1
Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;

( This is one place in the KJV where "mercy" should be translated Divine grace. Within this we see the compassion of our Father, giving even His chosen that unmerited favor. On account of having been given the ministry to spread the gosple, the Spirit pressing Paul gives him even greater streangth rather than being weary or weakened by pressing on to defeat the powers of darkness in the world. )

2
But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully;

( Thats Satan's way of doing things )

but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

( If you teach God's word openly and have that gift from God, then do it. If you learn a truth, then share it, don't hide it. Paul certainly had that gift. )

3
But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

( Those that choose to be lost. Stiffed necked back sliding heffers. )

4
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not,

( Lower case g. Talking about Satan. Yes, Satan has power, and he brings in darkness, but we were all given power over Satan and all our enemies, through Christ. )

lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

( This word shine means to beam i.e. a ray of light, radiance. When the lost come to the knowledge of the truth and accept Christ as their Savior, their countenance changes. A good discerner should see the difference. )

5
For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.

( They didn't make it up. Their is no other denomination or division from Christ. Christ is the church, no one or nothing else is. One Word, one Savior. The purpose: For Jesus sake. For God so loved the world.............. )

6
For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

( Translate "hearts" as "minds", the intelect of you soul. Remember the subject, Face Him. )

7
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

( The "treasure" is Christ in you. Participate in that power given, and enjoy it. Always remember, it is God that gives it. Don't take the credit thats due God. )

8
We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;

( Thats the attitude you want to have. None of this woe is me stuff. Stay strong and be of good courage. Thats what our Father expects. )

9
Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

( When you have true faith. When you put forth God's word into the world, your going to get persecuted, mocked. What Paul is saying is even so, we are never abandoned. The word cast down is [kataballo] in the Greek. There is a deeper thought behind what Paul just said. )

10
Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.

( I would like to ask others what they think Paul is saying here. I'll tell you what I think, you may not agree. We pick up the cross to be crucified with Christ. Christ died on the cross yes, but His Spirit never did. We die with Him so that His Spirit is made known and lives within us. It is Christ that protects us. )

11
For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake,

( Meaning we bear that cross and are crucified with Him. Always. )

that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.

( Mortal means liable to die. But death has no victory with Christ in you. Your eternal life has already started here and now. See it? )

12
So then death worketh in us, but life in you.

( On a deeper level, death is another name for Satan. And we struggle against the powers of the darkness of this world. But we have the life of Christ in us, so death has no power over us. )

13
We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;

( Paul just quoted Psalms 116:10. Do a side study of the whole Psalm and you'll see why Paul mentions it here. It applies to this whole chapter. )

14
Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.

( Thats the power of being part of that family. Thats peace of mind. )

15
For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. 16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

( I underlined the purpose: We do it for His sake. And even though these flesh bodies age and get weaker, the Spirit of Christ in us gets stronger and stronger )

17
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

( When we get our mind out of the world, nothing compares to the unmerited favor given by His grace to eternal life. )

18
While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

( We're just passing through. This flesh is only temporary. The things we can not see are very real. Stay focused on them. )

God bless:

stan
