Subject: 2 Corinthians 10

Zerubbabel Quote:
quote:
2 Cor 9
9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.
10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness

(Here we are speaking of seed again. Food may be physical, or spiritual. ie bread of life. Notice ministering seed to the sower. That could easily be speaking of a good teacher. )

Z, read Psalm 112. In verse 2, what does that remind you of?
[spora]. look also at the other Greek word # 4703 [sporos]. We have to do a study on this. This realy jumped out at me.

2Cor.10

Here are some of my thoughts of this chapter. I think within this, Paul gives the example of who we are to humble ourselves before, and at the same time, not be a welcome mat for people to walk all over you.

1
Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among, but being absent am bold toward you.

( Paul's asking the Corinthians to let him be humble and kind towards them but if he hears of contentions among them, he will be bold enough to straighten them out. )

2.
But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walk according to the flesh.

( Theres a lesson here that we should be bold towards others when it is deserved. )

3.
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh.

Eph.2:2
Wherein in times past ye walked according to the coarse of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience.

Eph.6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

( We fight Satan with spiritual weapons and not our flesh. Do so only in Christ' name because its His power that gives us the victory. )

4.
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.

( If you try to fight Satan or your enemies with carnal weapons he will have you for lunch. Use the spiritual weapons boldly in Christ's name and you'll tear down any strong hold Satan might try to use against you. If you humble yourself before your enemy and Satan, they will have you in their pocket. )

5.
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

( Boldly cast down those things that are disobedient to Christ and contrary to the Word of God. )

6.
And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

( This dosent say be gentle or meek. It says revenge all disobedience. Are you going to stand against the powers of darkness or are you going to say " cant we all just get along"? Recognize it, and deal with it. )

7.
Do you look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ's, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ's, even so are we Christ's.

( Look into the heart of those who claim to be Christian. If they truly are of Christ, it will be very apparent. Paul could show his connection to Christ. )

8.
For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, ( which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction ) I should not be ashamed.

( Authority wasn't given to Paul to bring people down. God gives authority to build upon ones faith, for edification, and if need be, to correct. )

9.
That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters.
10.
For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speach contemptible.

( This is not something I would say to Pauls face. Their telling him he's a poor teacher. We see already the contentions in the church even at this time. Pauls character could stand up to his accusers on his worst day. If you teach God's truth, be prepared to be attacked by the biblicly illiterate. But armed with Gods word, boldly set the false accusers straight. )

11.
Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letter when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present.

( If they said Pauls was weak to his face, do you think Paul would back down with the authority given to him by God? I think not. He was going to be just as hard in person if they pulled that stuff again. He would set them straight, real quick. )

12.
For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves are not wise.

( Wisdom is to compare oneself to what God's word says we are to be. Commending yourself by your own behavior is foolish. These are people who like to play church and oneupmanship with each other. They think they are wise, but their not, they don't understand at all. )

13.
But we will not boast of things without measure, but according to the rule which God has distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you.

( Christians measure themselves by God's word and not mans word. Don't look for man to lead you. Man will always end up disapointing you in one way or another. Go by God's plan. )

14.
For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as unto you also in preaching the Gospel of Christ.

( They were brought the gospel of Christ by Paul but they were still listening to fools. Paul was hoping they would take the Word past where they were. )

15. Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other mens labors; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be inlarged by you according to our rule abundantly.

( "measure" meaning, what you use for a guide. Paul is hoping the seed's he planted would grow many times over. )

16.
To preach the gospel in regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man's line of things made ready to our hand.
17.
But he that glorieth, let him Glory in the Lord.

( Take the Truth you have been given and share the good news. Be humble and bold in the Lord. But make sure it's God's Word. )

18.
For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.

( It's who the Lord lifts up. The gifts come so they can help others. Humble yourself before God. IF you will do this honestly, God will raise you up fit to fight the spiritual war. God's word will make those whom God calls salty. You must put in the work and study Gods word before you can make a difference in this troubled world we live in today. If you havent done your homework, And you put out there something contrary to God's word, expect to be corrected by someone who has. )

Be humble in His service.
