For a team to get an at-large bid they need (required) to have a really good rpi. Twenty win seasons do not equate to an at-large bid! Many teams don't get in with 20 wins or more... while some get in with only 18 wins.

Teams need wins versus quality opponents - regardless if they are televised or not. Quality wins improve a teams rpi. RPI's worthy of an at-large bid would begin in the low to mid 40's.

Television helps with developing a fan base, money, and recruiting.

The BWC conference is weak relative to the PAC-10, ACC, SEC, Big 10, Big 12, Big East, Conf USA. There are many BWC teams with rpi's from 150-300 (including my alma mater).

Currently, any BWC team going into conference play with a supper-good rpi... will damage their rpi rank when they beat a disproportionately lower rpi ranked conference foe. With that in mind, it is difficult to make it through conference and survive with a good rpi....even when a team goes undefeated in conference.

Now consider that the only team needing an at-large bid would have to NOT WIN the BWC tournament..., but loosing in the tournament also damages an rpi.

_______
So..., getting to something that we should all be aware of: We should all root for other conference teams as they proceed through their out of conference schedules. Wins versus stronger teams improve a teams rpi. Improved rpi's by conference members improve the overall strength of the BWC.... and decrease the damage done to ourselves win we win/loose in conference.

And... if you can keep track of this... if a BWC team beats a strong out-of-conference team (say like Iowa), then we should then root for Iowa so that their rpi remains strong.... thus still supporting the BWC teams rpi.
