The answer is you have to play the game by the "rules" laid down by the "Major" majors-- They control the NCAA with the football revenue--

Basically, the way the at large bids work the teams from the highly placed leagues have little to gain by scheduling many mid-majors--It does not help their rpi, a lose to a much lower rated team is death to their rpie, TV is not as interested in match-ups with relative unknowns nationally, and sell-outs are more likely with a game vs Duke than one vs Riverside (no offense Highlanders)--

So, if you can occasionally schedule such a game (opening in a high major schedule, local interest, coaches or ADs close friends) you take the game-- But just don't take away games, then you are cannon fodder, so you must deal for a home and home--

BUT THE REAL ANSWER, is you concentrate on scheduling the teams from the conference just above you(with the BWC it means scheduling WCC, MWC and WAC conference games in the west)--

It means ignoring contests against Big Sky and other lower rated conferences--(they are trying to play the same game with us so we should think like the high majors--avoid them unless its home games only)--then you win a high percentage of games against the slightly higher conference---

If you move up a few brackets as a conference then the high majors don't have as much to lose when they schedule you and the conference rpi increases
