I agree with your plan to schedule games against the conferences with RPI's just higher than the Big West's i.e. WAC, WCC, MWC, etc. Also, teams in the conference need to really push to get into preseason tournaments. Occasionally, teams from the Big West will be able to get into tournaments like the Maui Classic, the NIT, the Great Alaska Shootout, etc., however the tournaments I'm suggesting are the ones actually sponsored by the high major teams themselves. Teams throughout the major conferences have two-game tournaments during the preseason all the time. Teams from the Big West should be seeking out invitations to these events. Sure a team from the Big West will more than likely be scheduled to face the home team in the first game, but then the next game in the tournament is pretty much a game on a neutral court. I think it's worth it for a school to take their lumps against a major school on their home court for the opportunity to get a shot at another decent school on a neutral court. You get your shot at two quality opponents and you don't have the delusion that the host school is going to reciprocate and play a game at your home gym anytime soon, or worse have a contract with the school for a home and home then they break it because they are afraid you'll beat them.

Getting invites to these tournaments is easier said than done, however it's got to be easier than trying to get a home and home, or a home and 2 away agreement with any of the major schools.

Also, I think we need to think outside the box and try to play some teams away from the West Coast. Why not venture into Big 12/Big 11/Conference USA country for a game. Most of the decent Big West schools can't even get an away game with a Pac-10 school (i.e. CSUN), why not go elsewhere, get a big name game, a decent pay check, and possibly get some exposure for out of state recruiting. You never know a Big West team just might do the conference proud like Long Beach St. did a few years ago when they went into Lawerence Kansas and upset #1 Kansas on their home court.

Anyway, just a few thoughts.
