I appreciate the discussion and passion of my fellow BW fans. I feel we may all be in the same boat when it comes to following our respective BW schools or sports in general - we seem to have a passion for the game. (hence our participation on the message board) The point I was attempting to make was not an excuse, but merely an observation of the situation in Southern California in regards to colligiate sports. Being a California native, and having attended LBSU, I feel I have a grasp of the sports scene. You may be correct USUBlue, in that it may be a California thing, but I truly feel people will show and support a winner, bottom line. This can be seen not only in BW play, but Pac-10 football, basketball, the Lakers (the forum wasn't full in the 90's), etc.. But, I am not one to point out a problem and leave it alone - maybe that was the point in the replies. I don't think it is a hopeless situation. I don't think the BW, based on its geographics and demographics will ever rival the SEC in undying support, but I do think there is vast room for improvement. Some of the replies were right on when stating support starts with the students. LB State has nearly 30,000 students and can't fill the 5,000 seat Pyramid - embarassing, no excuse. I do see improvement from the top down, starting with Dr. Maxon - he has done a great job of rallying the student body and changing LB State from a commuter school to more of a traditional 4-year, freshman based school. There is a relatively new "Beach Patrol" student organization attending home and road athletic events. I have also noticed a significant upswing in alumni participation in the few years I have been out of school. So yes, there are steps to be taken to make the BW a more spirited, traditional college conference. Go Beach!
