I LOVED Art School. I had a terrible time finishing projects and didn't do well with constructive critism...

Now, in my more mature age, I find that whatever craft I seek to do, I manage an above fair result. I have a bad time 'deciding' what to do. I can spend hours thinking about what I might like to draw, paint, or sketch. In the depths of my mind I keep thinking a REAL artist wouldn't have this problem, which I know is crap!

When I do get a bee in my bonnet, I whip something out.

I have the distinction of being given a canvas in highschool that fit a frame that the school already owned... and I was 'voted' to paint a picture for the priciples office. You know, because we had that cool frame. The art teacher decided to send it to the state college, MU, for some student contest thing. Much to my shock, I came in fourth in the contest, and since it was Missouri University, and the field of competitors was SO wide, I was stunned.

They never returned the painting, the Art Voting Council lost track of who and where. It helped that this was the college that was far enough away from home that I WANTED to go there. I traveled there in my own car, alone, ran out of gas, I hadn't owned the car long enough to know the gauge was shot, and empty really showed on the dial as still a 1/4 of a tank...

I got there, did the tour, asked around for the Art Department, and then they showed me this room where all the unclaimed art was. Can you say warehouse, with BAD lighting??? Amazingly, it was the first stack that I started through, about the 10th pic in. I was so jazzed. I took it home, with all the intentions of the principle hanging it back in his painted cinderblock office. My father put a stop to that. It has hung in his office since, even after he passed Mom keeps it in 'his office'.

I painted that picture in less than 20 hours. Everytime I see it I am amazed. I wish that I could stick with a program and deliver. I have done some since, but I have no vanity, and don't like to keep them around.

Thanks for putting up with a lot of ancient history, blathering on, and what not.
