I think your compost would be just fine. If it's not still in hunks of the original component, I'm pretty sure your good.

I suspect veggies that spread like pumpkins, squash, cucumbers, and the like would need to be ground planted just because they take up SOOOOO much room.

Tomatoes should do okay, but what do I know? I will do my first container tomatoes this year for MIL (really me, but I can't tell her last years tomatoes were awful).
