Thanks for the report. Wow, not just football teams, but entire colleges are dropping like flies lately. I suspect that this trend will continue as there is an ongoing rather sharp drop in the number of young people attending college in the US.

Yeah. We are watching a few right now. Lyon, Birmingham Southern and a few more in D3.

Saint Augustine's
McKendree
Quincy
William Jewell
Hillsdale
Kentucky Wesleyan
Shorter, GA. There is a Shorter in Arkansas as well.
Alderson Broaddus
Wheeling
WV Wesleyan
Davis & Elkins
Carson-Newman

Those above are D2.

Several NAIA Kansas schools like Bendectine, Bethany, Bethal, Southwestern and Sterling.
Florida Memorial Saw they were in trouble with their accrediations or put on noticed.
Point
Judson
Louisiana Christian
Evangel
Bacone

Plus, we could see budget kick in where some D1 schools would drop athletics just like St. Francis NY did.
Presbyterian
Bethune-Cookman

This is such a wildly speculative and, frankly, irresponsible list. Over half of these institutions haven't made any form of credible statement indicating the dissolution of intercollegiate athletics and they certainly haven't indicated an imminent closure. Just gross rumor mongering.

There are news articles about Birmingham Southern need to raise cash to help pay debt, but they are struggling to a point that they may have to close.

Now, Iowa Wesleyan, Finlandia and them were on a list of schools with Cs and Ds listed with the ones that I made. They were put on that list because of the debt they took on. The combination of low enrollment, money to try to upgrade facilities, the Covid years and other issues do take a toll on the finances of a school.

It's sad to not only see IWU's football program end...but the school itself. They didn't have a lot of football success...only having one winning season since 1995. They also played in a lot of different conferences over the years. Their football history can be viewed at https://college-football-results.com/f/iowawesl.htm

Another school announced today that they are shutting down permantly is Cardinal Stritch in Milwaukee who is in the NAIA. They were on the list of schools to watch for closure for non-football.

Birmingham-Southern is going stay open at least for the fall of 2023. It is still not looking good for them. The state refused to help bail them out.
